I have been following this most of the day since the news broke online. This is not a new problem and it happens alot every hour of every day. Why does it take so long and only when something like this unfortunately happens does the skids are put under the legislators to deal with this issue. Its a priority now even though its been sitting there in bill form since 2017, it was a priority back then as well and long before that to be brutally honest.

An important note on this is please don't use the slang term used for this type of material it is and always will be Image Based S*xual Abuse, to call it by the slang term negates the seriousness of the incident and downplays what it truly is.

This is live ongoing issue for a long time and it occurs across many social media platforms.

It is understood that some of the images and videos are of minors.

Open and honest request....Im looking for a follow ๐Ÿ˜œ for our little project so please like & share and help us reach 100. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ

I have started a little project with my two boys, we are delving in to Live Streaming. Its just really for fun, but it is to show them how they can interact with the internet and the online community. LIVE streaming is becoming big business and we hope to look at all the different aspects, so it just wont be all playing games, there will be all the behind the scenes stuff and coming up with plans for the live stream, learning how streaming works, how we get from camera to website, so we will really dig in to this. End result is to understand how it all comes together and works.
At the very least if you have kids in the house they'll enjoy some home grown minecraft gaming.

It will be a project we will build on over the next while. If you'd like to follow us on the journey and see how we fair out please the the page a like.

This week we have reached out first two goals. One was to get more than one follower ๐Ÿ˜œ. The other was to look at using different platforms at the same time, we now can stream to Facebook, Twitch and YouTube.

Please help us reach our next goal and reach 100 followers. Thank you all ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜

Here is an interesting Podcast from RTEs Documentary on One to have a listen to.

It looks at the risks children face online, survivors and thise who are on the frontline tackling the issue.

Educate your kids and learn with them on the risks that go with online activites. Dont let them learn alone.

The amount of children being targeted by online predators is increasing every year. The strange man on the street used to be the person we warned our children about. Now, that stranger can be in your house, via an online device. We meet the people who police the internet, a survivor, and the Garda u...

Today Cybersafe Ireland released its 5th Annual Report and it does make for some interesting reading. Three days ago Interpol also released a report titles Threats and Trends Child S*xual Exploitation and Abuse - COVID19 Impact.

As a parent or Guardian or in fact anyone with responsibility for children should take a couple of moments to read the reports in full.

The main findings in the Cybersafe Ireland Report start on page 22 and here are some of the main findings that you should find interesting:

1: Most children (87%) have rules at home for going online although 13% say โ€œthere are no rulesโ€. Boys (17%) are more likely to say there are โ€œno rulesโ€ than girls (10%).
- In the report the research looks at the breakdown of this 13% that state 'there are no rules' - this looks like a small number but it is still concerning that some children have no rules for when gong online or any guidance.

2: The majority of teachers (60%) are dealing with online safety incidents in the classroom with 30% dealing with 2- 5 incidents in the last year, 27% dealing with 1 incident and 3% with more than 5.

3: TikTok is now the most popular social media app amongst 8 - 12 year olds with 40% saying that they have an account on it. This is followed by 34% on Snapchat and 32% on WhatsApp.

4: 26% of children reported playing over-18s games with boys (39%) much more likely to do so than girls (11%).

5: 31% of children game online with people they donโ€™t know in real life (40% of boys vs. 22% of girls).

6: Most children (61%) had been contacted by a stranger in an online game.

Number 5 and 6 here should be of most concern to parents and guardians. Children in the age brackets used to compile this report should not have online friends that they do not know in the real world and chat functions should be restricted to only known friends or not allowed at all. Being brutally honest taking the 'era sure it'll be grand' approach can lead to trouble down the road, sure its only a video games they are playing online. I cannot strongly emphasize enough that there are people using the apps and online games kids use for other means such as child exploitation and sexual abuse which directly relates to the Interpol report released on the 7th September 2020 which I will look at in a separate post.

As always if you have any questions let me know and I will be happy to help. Looking after kids in this era is a monumental task as you are quite literally dealing with a worldwide audience. Be it Fortnite, Minecraft or other online game know who your child is playing with. Parents should exercise extreme caution if your kids are using Social Media applications be open with them and know what they are sharing and more importantly WHO they are sharing with. If it gets out there there is no stopping it.

You may have seen it in the movies and yes it can happen. Cover that cam and dont let them in !!
If you are working to the new norm, working from home and using your we**am make sure you cover it over. In fact whenever you finish using your we**am on your laptop at any time you should cover it.
A piece of paper, a stickie, or a piece of tape will do. If your fierce fancy you could stretch out and get one of the stick on we**am covers or you may be lucky and it might be built in.

Don't believe its not on when it could be recording your every move.

Here is a video for the younger members of your house from encouraging young people to before they post online.
Encourage children to think about what they are posting and to take a moment to see if it is real. Fake news, False information and untruths can and do spread like wildfire, Why does this happen, well it is because people dont check the post to see if its true or not.
