Earlier this year, the MEGA iOS app adopted the liquid glass design. But we didn't stop there 👇

Over the months that followed, we made sure to:
· Improve streaming performance for faster, smoother video and audio playback
· Speed up uploads when you manually select photos and videos
· Add Live Activities so you can track transfers from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island

To enable Live Activities, go to Settings > MEGA > Live Activities

📢 Calling post production teams, videographers, photographers and editors working with massive media libraries!

MEGA S4 is our S3 compatible object storage service, available today for large scale storage, backup and archiving.

We're looking for a small group of media professionals to use S4 in their real workflows and share honest feedback. We'll provide free storage so you can properly put it to use.

We're particularly interested in people managing large media libraries across NAS, local storage, external drives or cloud storage.

Interested? DM us with what you do, roughly how much data you're storing and how you're storing it today.

The bigger the library, the more interested we are 👀

Will you trade your facial biometric data to get 'verified' on Facebook?

Last week, Facebook launched a free verified badge. You hand them a selfie video, they cross-check it against your photos. Unfortunately, we don't know where that video is stored or what Facebook does with it after verification.

What we do know is that Meta is also currently paying $650 million in Illinois and $1.4 billion in Texas for collecting facial biometric data without permission. 🤷

Back in March, Google quietly changed the rules for new accounts. Instead of 15 GB free, you now start with 5 GB, and only get the other 10 GB once you verify your phone number.

That's how easily big tech can get your data, by turning something they gave away freely for 13 years into a reward for handing over your phone number.

MEGA still gives you a generous 20 GB free on sign-up (yes, we used to give 50 GB, shoutout to our OGs).

Last week, Google added a new way to get back into your account: a selfie video. Would you use it?

Sure, it's convenient if you're locked out but what does this mean for your biometric data privacy? 🤷‍♀️ Before you record your face for Google, it's worth knowing where that video lives, how it's protected, and what Google can do with it beyond signing you in.

We broke it down in our latest blog. Link in the comments.

Ditch Google Drive and Dropbox, it's what's best for you 🙂

Most people don't realise that server-side encryption, which is what Google Drive and Dropbox use by default, still means the provider can access your files.

End-to-end encryption changes that: only you hold the keys, and the provider can't read your data.

We compared the main alternatives across encryption, zero-knowledge, storage, and price. Full breakdown in the comments.

Correction: Persona was always server-side, which is likely why the breach happened. Plus, Discord says the partnership had already ended before the files were found publicly.

Incode claims on-device biometric processing with nothing stored server-side, which is architecturally different to Persona. Less clear is whether that claim holds: Incode faced criticism on TikTok specifically for storing biometric data server-side.

But a platform with known data breaches while facing heavy criticism? Trust is a big ask 🫠
