We made a drone model that doesn't fly.

We originally modeled this drone for a different project, but the geometry was too good to leave in the archives. We’ve repurposed it into a 3D-printable desk model, complete with spinning blades that serve as a great tactile stress-reliever between meetings.

It walks through building a stable skeleton sketch, how to come up with expressions instead of hardcoding values, designing snap-fit and sliding pins with proper clearances, and modeling the folding mechanism so it clears the supports. Great design often starts with a simple question: How can I make this better?

For this week's Creator Spotlight, Ridzwan Normahazan, a creator based in Malaysia, inspiration comes from everyday inconveniences. His approach to solving them? Don't overthink the starting line.

"I don't have to figure out everything from the beginning," he shares. "I can just start with a simple sketch and then improve and improvise as I go."

By prototyping only the critical parts first, he iterates faster and wastes less material. Next on his build plate? A secret project guaranteed to make his son smile.

This week's Creator Spotlight is Affric, the product designer and founder of Cirffa, a Glasgow-based design company creating 3D printed lighting and accessories ( on Instagram).

He started his creative journey as a fine art photographer. Then he discovered 3D printing, and everything changed.

"3D printing to me was like magic. I could have an idea in my head, draw it in my design software, and with the click of a few buttons bring it into the real world."

He spent years exploring different making methods, but 3D printing was the one that stuck. His obsession with lighting and how it sets the mood of a space eventually turned into a business, after guests kept visiting his home, admiring his handmade lights, and asking where they could buy one.
