RUHA An interactive dress in music performance. It’s a new opportunity to eavesdrop on the music of our bodies.

It’s a nice thing to discover again and again that art too, works with information – and since we’re free to combine matter and information in whatever ways we choose, it’s almost inevitable that we create new methods of artistic expression. At first glance, you might see only wires, tech gizmos, even thought and innovation, but RUHA is really a metaphoric synthesis of ancient desires, present in

all of us. Music has been a force on the human psyche for millions of years, and dance was our only tool to turn our bodies into music. RUHA, as it turns the dancer’s movements into music with the aid if its sensors, is not only an innovative new device, but an instrument in every sense of the word, and instrument that dancers play with their bodies. Once clothes too, like all other accessories, had to be invented, then re-invented to help the performer fill every movement with special meaning. This new RUHA (meaning piece of clothing, dress in Hungarian), this sensitive musical skin allows dancers to take the principle even further, to empower their creative spirit, and to offer up new dimensions of the performance. The dancer is longer beholden to rhythm, but a master and creator.
