✨ OpenFOAM Workshop Guimarães — Our Highlights✨
This week, our team participated in the OpenFOAM Workshop in Guimarães, where we presented CF-MESH+ & cfMesh 1.2 and delivered two technical sessions. The event was a great opportunity to connect with the community, share knowledge, and showcase the latest developments in our meshing ecosystem.
The trip, however, started with an unexpected challenge — our colleagues’ luggage, including equipment and materials, was lost on the way. Thanks to the incredible support of the community, everything worked out smoothly.
A special thank you to Ruggero Poletto from CLOUD HPC - by CFD FEA SERVICE, who generously lent us a screen and materials so we could have something to work with. Moments like these remind us how strong and collaborative this community truly is.

Great energy at the Eastern Europe Conference in Budapest!
We had the opportunity to present CF-MESH+, our in-house developed CFD meshing software, and showcase our collaboration with the Simulation GmbH platform.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Lubos Pirkl from CFD support and exchanging insights on the future of simulation technologies.

Franjo Juretic will be speaking at Eastern Europe, where he’ll present “The Importance of Cell Volume Ratio in Finite Volume CFD.”
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, 28th April at 14,20h.

He’ll explain why this often overlooked mesh parameter plays such a big role in the accuracy and stability of CFD simulations. If you’re interested in engineering, simulation, or numerical modeling, this is a session you won’t want to miss.

Das gefährlichste Simulationsergebnis?

Eins, das konvergiert, aber physikalisch falsch ist.

Ein schlechtes Rechengitter produziert Zahlen, die plausibel aussehen. Der Solver meldet keine Warnung. Die Residuen fallen. Die Kennlinie sieht vernünftig aus. Aber die Kavitationsvorhersage liegt 15 % daneben. Die Axialkräfte stimmen nicht. Der Best Efficiency Point verschiebt sich um zwei Betriebspunkte. Und niemand merkt es, bis der Prüfstand die Wahrheit zeigt.

Warum passiert das? Weil die Grenzschicht an der Schaufelvorderkante nicht aufgelöst wurde. Weil die Spiralzunge zu grob vernetzt war. Weil der Spalt zwischen Laufrad und Gehäuse ignoriert wurde. Weil die Boundary-Layer-Zellen zu dick waren. Jeder einzelne dieser Fehler sieht harmlos aus. Zusammen machen sie das Ergebnis unbrauchbar.

Das Tückische: Der Solver konvergiert trotzdem. Er liefert eine Zahl. Und diese Zahl sieht genau so aus wie eine richtige Zahl. Der Unterschied liegt im Netz und im Verständnis dessen, was ein gutes Netz ausmacht.

cf-mesh+ in StrömungsRaum® erzeugt automatisch an der Schaufelvorderkante, an der Spiralzunge und im Spalt polyedrische Netze mit lokaler Verfeinerung. Die Netzqualität wird softwaregestützt geprüft.
