For users that a low firmware/bootloader version SWARG provides a license extension till 1. July 2023 with enabled firmware update for the 3.2.2 version.

To extend the license place the update.bin file into a license folder at the root of the SD card and a 3.2.2 firmware update file at the root of the SD card.

Official Statment

SWARG as the copyright owner implemented a time-limited license into the code used by ORQA.

The license has expired which causes a blocked device until a new license is provided.

To enable normal usage of the product SWARG provides a license extension till 1. July 2023.

In the meantime, SWARG and ORQA will hopefully reach an agreement about Copyright/licensing.

To extend the license place the update.bin file into a license folder at the root of the SD card. After the update is finished delete the folder with its content and perform a firmware update by placing the .orqa update file at the root of the SD card.

Q:
Why can't ORQA publish a firmware that fixes the problem?

A:
Because it's not their source code!

The binary firmware and update files are encrypted with a custom 1kB block encryption that runs on a GPU part (no documentation) for which there is no disassembly tool to reverse engineer the code!

The provided tools by SWARG for firmware and update generation don't provide all aspects of the code capability.

Q:
Why are some goggles starting from 29. April 2023 affected and others not?

A:
The expiration date depends on the first factory version.

The expiration dates are scattered from 29. April 2023 to 1. January 2025.

Exceptions are products for Police/SWAT/Military, assuming that SWARG was informed about their use for that purpose and no firmware updates were performed.

Q:
Why is there no fix for V1 goggles?

A:
Starting with V2 there is an added option to boot from an SD card instead of the internal memory.
Therefore only V2 hardware can be fixed that way not V1.

Q:
Why must the goggles be opened to fix the "RTC bug"?

A:
There is no "RTC bug" or need to open the goggles.

Shorting the pins described by ORQA prevents the µP from properly bootup and responding to the µC.

This initializes a last attempt to save time and money (shipping to the factory for repair) by booting firmware directly from an SD card instead of the internal memory.

That's the way ORQA hacks the license in the goggles!

A:
Your goggles are not bricked there are totally fine!
The problem is an expired license for the use of SWARG d.o.o. copyrighted source code.
