Election promises by the New South Wales government and the Labor opposition to reward “safe” drivers have been met with scepticism by industry experts, with one accusing both sides of buying votes and failing to advance road safety.

The Coalition on Wednesday promised that drivers with a three-year clean driving record would be able to avoid fines for low-level offending, including low-range speeding, disobeying some signs and driving in a bus lane, if re-elected.

Labor and the Coalition promise to ease penalties for ‘low-level’ offences if they win the state election

The transport sector is one of the major contributors to global GHG emissions. Global CO2 emissions from the transport sector grew by 8% year-on-year and rebounded to a 37% share of emissions from end-use sectors in 2021.

On the COP27 Solutions Day, the COP27 Presidency launched the Low Carbon Transport for Urban Sustainability initiative. One of the proposed distinct interventions is to improve accessibility and service quality from the perspective of passengers, including ensuring the introduction of the “inclusion” component within urban transport projects.

The Metropolitan Transport Authority of Barcelona announced that it is banning electric scooters and unicycles on board the local public transport vehicles. The measure will enter into force from 1 February and for now, it will be of temporary nature with a duration of six months.

This period is supposed to be a chance for the e-scooter operators in the Catalan capital to prepare regulation proposals on how they plan to make the use of said vehicles safer for the public. The ban itself was motivated after an incident, on 17 November last year, when an e-scooter burst into flames on the board of a regional train and resulted in three injuries.

While driving in the rain, drivers should slow down to give themselves more time to react, keep a greater distance between other cars and stay alert — which means avoiding cruise control.

Driving in the rain is not always easy — and let's face it, those of us living in Southern California are not at all used to wet roads.

Hong Kong has been named the world’s top city for public transit, according to a new study by consulting firm Oliver Wyman and the University of California, Berkeley. The city’s transport network is praised for not only being affordable, but also for having a high station density and good railway infrastructure. Yet it still has room for improvement, according to the researchers, who suggest it could use a smartphone app to help travelers better navigate the city.

New rankings surveyed 60 major cities around the world on their infrastructure, social impact, market attractiveness, system efficiency and network innovation.

Research undertaken by ComRes on behalf of Go-Ahead’s Zero Emission Centre of Excellence has found that only 26% of the public view bus travel as a ‘green’ form of transport – on a par with rail travel, but well below the number who view cycling or walking as ‘green’.
However, if they are specifically told that a bus they are catching is powered by an electric or hydrogen fuel cell battery, the proportion who view it as a green form of transport rockets to 81%.

Hanover is making journeys on all modes of public transport easier for passengers.

When many people hop onboard a bus, they don’t think about what is needed from a passenger information system to provide information for everyone.

A next stop passenger information system needs to provide concise information about the journey, with both visual and audio messages to give customers confidence when they travel.

Hanover Displays is emphasising the accessibility side of its product range. By ensuring it’s DDA...
