We are honoured to be featured in Mr. Wong Ha Pak (黃夏柏先生)’s new book, ‘A Chronicle of Hong Kong Movie Theatres: The Film Industry, the Stars and Screening History’. The chapter on Elephant’s work in cinema projectors features an interview with our team, connecting projector installation, their maintenance, and technological evolution over decades across local cinemas.

The book traces the development of Hong Kong’s film industry from its emergence before World War II, to its golden age in the 1980s, later transformation and challenges after the 2000s. Framing its narrative from the perspective of movie theatres, the book explores cinema chains, movie stars, projection technology, cinema spaces, and the social changes behind Hong Kong’s movie-going culture.

Mr. Wong made a point of interviewing industry veterans including Elephant that have served for over half a century. Through the personal experiences of these industry insiders, the book looks back on the magic of sight and sound behind Hong Kong's cinema and the continuation of the industry's technological lineage."

As Elephant celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2026, we are grateful to be part of this meaningful record of Hong Kong cinema heritage.

【The Izvor DAC by Designer, Darko Greguras】

This twelve-year project has been driven by a passion to return to the basics, using selected, well-known and refined components to create a harmonious, discrete multibit digital-to-analogue converter.

But this project did not come without its challenges. The resistors I wanted to use have a tolerance of 1%, which (if used in a conventional way, as other manufacturers do) is insufficient even for 14-bit performance in a discrete segmented DAC. So, we had to think creatively and look for innovative solutions.

【 Audio Note IZVOR DACs are now available!】
The culmination of over 30 years of innovation, IZVOR is another Audio Note (UK) Ltd first: a handcrafted, discrete DAC built with premium custom resistors.

Taking the philosophy further, the IZVOR project that began in 2014 completely removes the DAC chip, using premium analogue parts to deliver “Digital Conversion × Analogue Engineering.”

Izvor technology is available for all models in the following product ranges:
DAC 4.1 Balanced, DAC 5, Fifth Element.

【Audio Note releases IZVOR, the first-ever Discrete Ladder DAC module built with Premium Analogue Components.】

2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Audio Note (UK) Ltd. The vanguard of high-fidelity vacuum tube and analogue-centric design has released a new version of their classic integrated amplifier, the OTO, and has quietly been developing a new Digital Audio Converter (DAC).

The IZVOR (pronounced is-vor)—a Slavic word meaning "source, spring, or well"—is a fundamental ground-up reimagining of the digital audio conversion process itself: a discrete ladder DAC module using premium-grade resistors to construct the array.

“Affording our design team near-limitless R&D resources allowed us to interrogate every facet of ladder DAC topology,” says Peter Qvortrup, founder of Audio Note (UK). “After twelve years of refinement, every stage of the IZVOR has been validated through rigorous empirical testing and, crucially, critical listening.”
