About last night

What happened
• Starlink experienced a global network outage on July 24, 2025, lasting about 2.5 hours. Tens of thousands of users—more than 61,000 reports on Downdetector—were affected, primarily in the U.S. and Europe.
• The disruption was attributed to a failure of key internal software services that manage Starlink’s core network infrastructure, according to Michael Nicolls, VP of Engineering. Starlink said they are working to identify the root cause and ensure it doesn’t recur.

• Elon Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
• Michael Nicolls also posted updates confirming service restoration and committing to preventive measures.

🌍 Global impact
• The outage affected users in over 140 countries; Starlink serves more than 6 million customers globally. It was one of the largest and most widespread outages in Starlink’s history.
• In Australia, regional and remote users—particularly in Tasmania, Queensland, and New South Wales—experienced disruptions, though most had service restored within 2.5 hours. Some areas remained partially offline longer.
