Key lessons learned from our AI Dev Hackathon in Athens
(with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Sinergi/Nexxion Team) - reflections from our COO, Konstantinos Nikolaou:

1) The outcome is already real
Many teams came in with cautious expectations. Within the first day, they had delivered on their initial scope - and by day two, several were already extending into more production-oriented use cases. A clear signal that these tools are not just promising - they are already impactful in practice.

2) AI adoption is a people challenge, not just a technology one
The same pattern we see with our customers was visible during the hackathon: value comes only when people know how to use the tools.
Proper training - for both developers and end users, from office to vessel - is critical. Even the best solution will fall short if teams are not confident in using it in their daily workflows.

3) This reinforces our direction: AI-native ERP
This initiative was not just experimentation. It confirms our strategic path towards building AI-native, next-generation ERP systems - where AI is embedded across workflows, data, and user interaction, forming a broader, connected ecosystem around Benefit Software.

The takeaway:
AI will not create value by itself. People using it effectively will.
That’s where the real transformation starts.

Two days. One shared goal: build more intelligent ERP systems powered by AI.🚀

Together with Amazon Web Services and Synergi/Nexxion Team, we brought our Benefit Software engineering teams into a hands-on Dev AI Hackathon focused on real product use cases and enterprise-grade challenges.

Across workshops and build sprints, our teams worked with GenAI capabilities and Amazon Web Services (AWS) services, exploring how tools like Kiro CLI/IDE and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can support faster development, better automation, and more intelligent interaction with complex ERP environments.

🎯The focus was not on experimentation alone, but on how these capabilities translate into real improvements across enterprise workflows - from data handling and integrations to system intelligence and developer productivity. What stood out most was the alignment between technology and product direction: building the foundations for ERP systems that are more adaptive, more connected, and increasingly AI-enabled across core processes.

A huge thank you to AWS - and especially to Thanasis Patsakas, Alvaro Cañas Garcia, Lefteris Karageorgiou and Matviy Kruglow - and to Synergi/Nexxion Team - Thanasis Politis, Senior Solution Architect and main event speaker, and Konstantinos Katsaros, Project Manager - for joining us in Athens and contributing with expertise and hands-on support throughout the initiative. 👏

🛳️Last week we had the pleasure of attending the Navigator Assembly at the Grand Hyatt Athens, joining an inspiring gathering of professionals from across the Greek shipping community.

It was a great opportunity to exchange perspectives on the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of shipping from sustainability and regulation to the evolving role of people and technology in the industry.
