The Master of Isengard” is finally complete.
This piece was created using a mix of watercolor, gouache, pencil, and pastel on 300gsm paper (50x40cm).
Capturing his face was a complex and demanding process. I wanted to convey not only the weight of age and wisdom, but also that hidden ambition—the quiet thirst for power and control beneath the surface. Balancing all of these elements in a single expression was the real challenge.
What pushed me the most was his character. His facial structure is incredibly distinctive—every line and subtle shift matters. Recreating those nuances required patience, precision, and a lot of careful observation.
The shadows played a huge role as well. Each tone had to build depth while enhancing both age and emotional intensity.
I primarily used watercolor to build transparent layers and atmosphere, then refined the details with pastels and colored pencils to push the realism further.
This artwork will be available at The Comic Con this May, in original form, as well as prints, and limited-edition mugs & pillows.
