During my time with my previous employer, I was assigned to travel from Juaboso to Enchi to retrieve machines that could not be delivered to my location by the Metro Mass Bus due to the poor road conditions between Enchi and Dadieso.
With limited options, we had to rely on a pickup truck, a mini-van, and an additional pickup loaned to us by the Juaboso District Assembly to transport the machines back to Juaboso for deployment the following day.
We set off around 4:30 PM, and on our way to Enchi from Dadieso, we encountered the deteriorated state of the road. Despite the challenges, our drivers were confident they could navigate the terrain, even with the loaded vehicles on our return journey. Although I had my reservations, I was not the one behind the wheel, so I remained silent.
At approximately 11:30 PM, we arrived at the Aowin Municipal Assembly to load our vehicles. By 12:15 AM, we reached the muddy stretch of the road—where the real struggle began. The drivers made several attempts to maneuver through, but nothing worked.
Realizing we were stuck, I had no choice but to walk about 45 minutes in complete darkness to the nearest village in search of help. Upon my arrival, I noticed the villagers looking at me with curiosity, whispering among themselves. Summoning courage, I approached a gentleman and explained my predicament. With a loud voice, he relayed my request to the villagers, and soon after, a sense of calmness settled over them.
I negotiated with some young men on the cost of their assistance, and after reaching an agreement, we returned to the site to begin the task. Unfortunately, the first group of helpers was unable to push the stuck vehicles out of the mud, prompting them to return home and call for additional manpower—an effort that also increased the cost.
On our next attempt, with extra hands, we finally managed to free the vehicles. After ensuring everything was in order, we arrived in Juaboso around 5:30 AM. With work scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM, I had no time to rest. I proceeded immediately with the deployment to ensure there were no delays in registration at Juaboso and Bodi, as I was responsible for the machines.
Looking back, I am truly relieved that this once-impassable road has since been constructed under administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This development will undoubtedly enhance economic activities between Enchi, Dadieso, Bodi, Juaboso, Akontombrah, and other districts.
God bless Nana Addo Dankwa and Dr Bawuma for this remarkable achievement.
Thank you.
