Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia writes;

WORRYING DEVELOPMENTS IN OUR COUNTRY: AN APPEAL TO H.E. PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA

This statement is released against a personal vow I made since leaving office. I made a personal affirmation to allow our new President and his government to get the needed space to get a hold of things and settle down quickly to tackle the important business of governance, and by extension nation building. Having been Vice President for the past eight years, I have come to appreciate the enormity of the task; a task that requires that those entrusted with the responsibility of governance, especially the President, get the needed support and composure to implement their vision for the betterment of our dear country.

Unfortunately, I need to speak up on recent developments that pose significant threats to our democracy. To look away whilst these ills persist is to abandon my responsibility to remind President Mahama and his government of the overriding duty to live by the democratic tenets envisioned in the 1992 Constitution and do justice and “right to all manner of persons”. When Ghanaians voted for change in the 2024 general elections, it manifested the desire to continue with national development, albeit with different people at the helm of affairs. It was within this spirit that I gave an early concession speech, urging all Ghanaians to support our new president as he attempts to make his contribution to the cumulative progress successive governments have chalked over the years.

Since the assuming office, however, the government of President Mahama has pursued a series of actions targeting Ghanaians who were legitimately employed during the previous administration. It is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless, just because a different government employed them to put their talents to bear on the nation’s development and earn income to cater for themselves and their families.
The least a party that campaigned on jobs could do under conditions of unemployment is to also innovate and create jobs rather than dismiss people.

Regrettably, these dismissals have been extended to directors who are public servants and not politicians. In some of the cases, the only reason for dismissal was that the persons whose livelihoods have been destroyed are known to or related to politicians as if to suggest that they cannot live independent professional lives, however qualified they are. There are also reports of government’s intention to terminate the appointments of persons performing critical jobs such security personnel, nurses, and teachers simply because they were appointed during the tenure of the previous administration. That will be most unfortunate.

Furthermore, there is a general atmosphere of insecurity with attacks on journalists, the use of our military to raid the homes of former government officials and communities, as well as mobs attacking innocent individuals and state institutions. This is rather reminiscent of a military takeover and not a peaceful democratic transition. These are certainly worrying times for our democracy, and the earlier action is taken to protect institutions and democratic practice, the better it would be for Ghana's forward match.

Ghanaians understood the promise of change to mean discarding the ills associated with the governance of our nation since 1992 and also an opportunity to show the way for future governments. There is no reset by repeating or escalating what may have happened in the past. Therefore, I call on His Excellency President Mahama to be a president for all Ghanaians by putting a stop to these developments, reversing the unfair dismissals, and protecting all our citizens.

We must advance our democracy.
We must protect our state institutions.
We must uphold our Constitution.
Ghana can do better. Ghana must do better!
Thank you
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

During my time with my previous employer, I was assigned to travel from Juaboso to Enchi to retrieve machines that could not be delivered to my location by the Metro Mass Bus due to the poor road conditions between Enchi and Dadieso.

With limited options, we had to rely on a pickup truck, a mini-van, and an additional pickup loaned to us by the Juaboso District Assembly to transport the machines back to Juaboso for deployment the following day.

We set off around 4:30 PM, and on our way to Enchi from Dadieso, we encountered the deteriorated state of the road. Despite the challenges, our drivers were confident they could navigate the terrain, even with the loaded vehicles on our return journey. Although I had my reservations, I was not the one behind the wheel, so I remained silent.

At approximately 11:30 PM, we arrived at the Aowin Municipal Assembly to load our vehicles. By 12:15 AM, we reached the muddy stretch of the road—where the real struggle began. The drivers made several attempts to maneuver through, but nothing worked.

Realizing we were stuck, I had no choice but to walk about 45 minutes in complete darkness to the nearest village in search of help. Upon my arrival, I noticed the villagers looking at me with curiosity, whispering among themselves. Summoning courage, I approached a gentleman and explained my predicament. With a loud voice, he relayed my request to the villagers, and soon after, a sense of calmness settled over them.

I negotiated with some young men on the cost of their assistance, and after reaching an agreement, we returned to the site to begin the task. Unfortunately, the first group of helpers was unable to push the stuck vehicles out of the mud, prompting them to return home and call for additional manpower—an effort that also increased the cost.

On our next attempt, with extra hands, we finally managed to free the vehicles. After ensuring everything was in order, we arrived in Juaboso around 5:30 AM. With work scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM, I had no time to rest. I proceeded immediately with the deployment to ensure there were no delays in registration at Juaboso and Bodi, as I was responsible for the machines.

Looking back, I am truly relieved that this once-impassable road has since been constructed under administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This development will undoubtedly enhance economic activities between Enchi, Dadieso, Bodi, Juaboso, Akontombrah, and other districts.

God bless Nana Addo Dankwa and Dr Bawuma for this remarkable achievement.

Thank you.

DON’T TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY

We were recently informed by the National Service Secretariat about an alleged scandal involving approximately 81,000 ghost names in the National Service Scheme.

Let me tell you the truth, whatever you heard is completely untrue. This is nothing more than an act of political revenge by the current government against the previous administration.

The NSS Boss was appointed less than a month ago, yet we are to believe that he managed to audit the entire NSS system and uncover this supposed scandalous data, a process that should take months to complete.

Back in 2017, when the NPP took over, similar accusations were made about ghost names allegedly inserted into the system by the previous NDC Mahama administration. Now, as an act of revenge, they have inflated the ghost names figure just to create the impression that they are actively fighting corruption.

If they truly have such a list, every individual in the system registered with an identity card for E-Switch payments. They should publish the names and corresponding numbers of these so-called ghost names for the entire country to see and believe in this so-called scandal.

I am telling you today, these accusations will lead nowhere, and no individual will be arrested over this.

The NDC hasn’t changed, and they never will.

Thank you.

SAD NEWS 💔:

Over 15,000 recruited nurses have been dismissed by the NDC under President John Mahama.

Although the directive was supposed to take effect from December 7th, unfortunately, those who were recruited in November have also been affected.

This means that the same person who, between 2013 and 2016, failed to recruit a single nurse is now dismissing those who were hired by the previous government to clear the backlog. The recruitment process was left with the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches yet to be employed.

In November last year, the 2020 batch was recruited and was awaiting salary confirmation. However, just yesterday, a letter was released confirming their dismissal.

The precedent being set by the NDC and President Mahama will surely be remembered in the years to come.

Thank you.
