I spent most of my day yesterday speaking about our product, MyAgro360 by Africa Farmnet Limited (https://africafarmnet.com/), to PhD research scholars from the University of Guelph, Canada. Our agritech solution, MyAgro360, with its web and mobile-based applications (https://myagro360.com/), provides an integrated AI/GIS-powered digital farm management solution for pest and disease identification and control, e-extension, farm mapping, last mile stakeholder management, location-based weather forecasting, and an agri-commerce platform for trading by farmers.
A persistent question these grad researchers had was whether the developers were foreigners or Ghanaians trained abroad. To their surprise, I responded, indicating that the original developers were trained in Ghana. I cited a number of such solutions developed, piloted and commercialised by young Ghanaians. We need to amplify the reach of stories as a continent to project several home-grown innovations impacting lives and improving productivity.
Emerging and disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence ( ), , the Internet of Things ( ), , Geographical Information Systems ( ), Machine Learning and Neural Networks ( ), Remote Sensing, Biosensors, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are driving innovations in the agribusiness sector in Ghana and across Africa. However, deliberate policies to support these timely revolutions in the way we do agriculture in Africa are glaringly lacking. We can't afford to lose on the 4IRs as a continent.
