Rural life and water challeges_Piiyiyi Community No. 2. JIRAPA, Scorging the Sun in order to squeeze water out of rock in plain language.
Their throats are as dry as the dry soil you see in March in the northern part of Ghana. The poor women, husbands, children and entire community of Piiyiri No 2, in the JIRAPA Municipality had to scorge in the hot sun carrying stones to help themselves in their quest to get their borehole repaired after a breakdown for over six months. The said borehole which served over 500 people in the community was drilled by a kind individual in 2017. The gesture brought great smiles and relieve to the community since they did not have any portable source of drinking water.
The community have since treasured this asset and did their best in maintaining the Samaritan water source any time it breaks down.
The video below may sound dramatic but this is a passionate cry from the poor community, especially of women and little children not forgetting the aged whose throats have gone dry for close to three months now after their last breakdown. Their reason for carrying stone in the hot sun is to help them generate income from the sale of the heap in order to be able to afford replacement parts and maintenace cost. Their pockets according to the video, have gone very dry owing to the many times they have had to task themselves to get the borehole repaired.
An appeal goes out there to the Municipal Chief executive, Hon. Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri, the MP, Hon. Cletus Seidu Dapilah and Hon. Paul Derigubah (the initiator of this kind gesture) and to all well meaning groups and individuals to come to the aid of the community. The Piiyiri community No 2, would be very grateful if a new borehole could be drilled to supplement the rising population. This community is sited on a hill right behind the wall of St. Francis of Assisi Girls SHS to the west down to Pogtuoyiri and could be considered as a site for a bigger water reservoir to serve nearby communities as well. As the saying goes, "water is life" the community is very grateful for every effort in cooling down their dry throats. Thanks in advance for your prompt response and support. May God Almighty who sees in secret, reward you abundantly for every kind gesture to humanity.
Put together by Pius Kangpog, a humble teacher in a community.
