A maximum-severity security flaw in a widely used Cisco network product is being actively exploited right now, and if your organization runs Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), this is not a "get to it next week" item.

CVE-2026-76460 lets an attacker bypass authentication entirely and gain full administrative control of the system that decides which devices and users are allowed onto your network. Cisco has confirmed real-world attacks, and CISA added it to its official list of actively exploited vulnerabilities on September 16, 2026.

The fix: Cisco has released patches for all affected versions, and there is no workaround, so patching is the only real defense. If you manage this system, or work with an IT team that does, make sure this is on today's list, not this month's.

CIRCIA is arriving: is your incident response plan ready for a 72-hour clock?

CISA is expected to finalize the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act (CIRCIA) rule this month, closing out rulemaking that began under the 2022 statute. Once final, covered entities across all 16 critical infrastructure sectors (from electric utilities and water systems to hospitals and chemical facilities) will need to:

- Report substantial cyber incidents to CISA within 72 hours
- Report ransomware payments within 24 hours

The 2024 draft rule drew criticism for potentially reaching roughly 300,000 entities and for ambiguity in what counts as a "substantial" incident, so the final language will matter a great deal. Organizations that haven't stress-tested detection, internal escalation, legal review, and reporting workflows against these timelines should start now; 72 hours moves fast once an incident is confirmed.
