As part of delivering the Electricity Strategy for the island and increasing domestic solar array installations, Digimap has worked with the States of Guernsey to produce a free map to help householders understand how suitable their roofs are for solar panels.
This initiative began after renewable energy provider, Little Green, spoke to the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure to highlight the benefits of a tool to assist people considering installing solar panels on their property.
The map is colour-coded to show the amount of light that solar panels would receive on the island’s rooftops throughout the whole year. Roof spaces with higher potential to generate electricity through solar panels show as dark red, while roof spaces with lower potential show as dark blue.
Producing this map and making it freely available aligns with the Electricity Strategy agreed by the States in 2023, which gave a clear, long-term strategic decision for Guernsey to pursue additional interconnection while also increasing the amount of energy generated locally through renewable sources such as solar power.
