Tales From The Till
Well, we haven't had one for a hot minute, but here we go...
I had a lovely couple in, and they noticed our WALL OF SHAME Pokémon Cards. An area where we put fake Pokémon cards that have been traded in for a bit of a laugh.
They asked if we got many fakes in, to which I said, yeah, sometimes people are trying to pull a fast one and try to pass it off as real, and other people, fairly enough, don't know it is fake.
As if the Universe was playing a sick joke, what happens next?
The next person HAS A FAKE GENGAR / MIMIKYU TAG CARD!
To put this in context, this is like an £800 Pokémon card.
Instantly, without touching it, I can see it is fake.
It has the classic dark surface, no black line in the middle of the card, no texture and a blurry image. This is like the absolute perfect example of a fake card.
I tell the guy, I am really sorry, but it is fake.
This guy starts giving me it:
"I GOT THIS OUT OF A PACK! HOW CAN IT BE FAKE!"
"HOW?! HOW!"
"I GOT THIS FROM SMYTHS!"
Because this guy wasn't believing me, there were 3 lads behind him waiting to buy cards, so I show them the card and go:
"Lads, is this card fake?"
Instantly, they all go yes (and I know they're thinking, how is this even a question and even holding a laugh back).
This guy is still giving me the same aggro (uncalled for).
So I say I will show you a card from the same era to show you. As soon as I offer that, he goes, "I haven't got time for this", and storms off like a child. Muttering words as he's leaving.
My days.
Of course, everyone in the shop thought it was hilarious (and uncalled for) that he was trying to pass it off as a real card.
And you know what?
If someone doesn't know a card is fake... that's fine. If you don't know, you don't know.
But don't give us aggro because you don't know what you're on about (or trying to rip us off).
