Could lupin become one of the next major sustainable protein sources for food and feed?
The Lupin Loop project set out to answer exactly that.
Bringing together expertise across agronomy, seed chemistry, ingredient processing, and food product development, this ambitious UK–Canada collaboration explored how lupin can move beyond promise and towards real commercial opportunity across the UK, Europe, and North America.
Led by Soya UK, and delivered with partners including the UK Agri-Tech Centre, Lupin Platform, Biopower Technologies, and the University of Leeds, the project built on earlier lupin research to generate new knowledge and innovation across the value chain.
Work also included activity at the UK Agri-Tech Centre’s Digital Phenotyping Lab, contributing to a deeper understanding of lupin seed characteristics relevant to future applications. Funded by Innovate UK and Protein Industries Canada, Lupin-Loop highlights the power of international collaboration in accelerating the future of sustainable protein.
