A customer recently brought me a laptop that was running extremely slowly on Windows 10 and asked if it could be upgraded to Windows 11.
After investigating, I found the internal drive was 93% full. Unfortunately, the storage was soldered onto the motherboard with no option to add or upgrade the drive. While Windows 11 would have installed, it would have quickly run into the same storage limitations.
Instead, I recommended Linux Mint. The customer was a little sceptical at first, but after a quick overview they decided to give it a try. Their main concern was whether their printer would work, so I suggested they plug it in when they got home and let me know if there were any issues.
Later that day, I received this text:
"Hi Brian, getting on with the laptop just fine and the printer works great. Thank you."
It's always satisfying to help customers extend the life of their computers and avoid unnecessary expense. Sometimes a fresh start with the right operating system can make all the difference.
