Handle Your CPU (and socket) with Care!

When installing a new processor, precision is everything. Even one bent pin in the socket can stop your entire system from booting - and sometimes it's impossible to repair (luckily this one was repairable).

Bagpuss, our favourite saggy old cloth cat, is coming back to the big screen in 2027! The new film will blend live‑action and animation, bringing the charm of the original 1974 classic into modern Britain, all while staying true to themes of kindness, creativity, and mending broken things—just like Bagpuss and friends used to do.

And speaking of mending - I just fixed a Lenovo laptop with a broken charger connector lodged in its port - problem now solved!

It feels especially fitting: both Bagpuss and I believe in the magic of fixing things, giving them back their spark, and keeping them going. Here's to bringing stories—and devices—back to life!

When weak mounting points give out, it's not just the hinge that suffers - this one took the screen with it too.

So this HP ENVY x360 Convertible needs a new touch screen, new display cover and the hinges loosened.

Sometimes bad design costs more than you'd think! It is repairable though, and cheaper than replacing the laptop.

The Solid State Drive in this computer has failed and needs to be replaced. To gain access to the drive you first have to 'cut' the screen off of the device them remove every single component.

Can you guess the computer model and more significantly the manufacturer who thinks this a good idea 😠

If your CPU is stuck to your cooler, here are some steps you can take to safely separate them:

Apply 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to the CPU and cooler. Let it sit for a few minutes to soften the thermal paste.

Hold the cooler and CPU and try gently twisting them in opposite directions.

Do not use excessive force or pry the CPU off.

Consider taking your computer to a qualified technician who will have the experience and tools to safely separate the CPU and cooler.

Did you know that dust can be a serious threat to your computer's health? It can clog filters, restrict airflow, and cause overheating. Plus, dust can act as an insulator, trapping heat inside your device. Over time, this can lead to hardware failures and even fires.

Regular cleaning is essential to keep your tech running smoothly.

The customer had previously tried to repair their Synology DS1515+ NAS by replacing a transistor. Unfortunately, the attempt was unsuccessful and resulted in damage to the device.

We carefully examined the NAS and discovered that a solder pad had been lost during the previous repair. To resolve the issue, we exposed the underlying trace and successfully soldered a new transistor in place.

Thanks to our repair, the customer's Synology NAS is now fully functional.
