👓 **WHAT IF SOMEONE COULD FILM YOU… AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN REALISE?**

Smart glasses are getting better.

And cheaper.

But there is a problem we probably need to talk about:

**privacy.**

Some smart glasses contain cameras capable of recording what the wearer sees.

Yesterday, Australia’s online safety regulator called for manufacturers to build stronger privacy protections into them.

One suggestion:

👉 automatically blur the faces of people who haven't consented to being filmed.

Another:

👉 make recording indicators obvious and impossible to disable or hide.

And I think this raises a much bigger question.

When someone points a phone camera at you…

you usually know you're being filmed.

But when the camera is inside a pair of glasses?

That's very different.

Technology can be incredible.

But just because we CAN build something doesn't mean we shouldn't ask how it should be used.

Not another pointless app asking for 15 permissions. 😅

These three can actually be useful:

⛽ **1. PETROLPRICES**

Compare fuel prices near you before filling up.

If you create an account and add your vehicle, it can also help remind you about things such as MOT and tax dates.

🩹 **2. BRITISH RED CROSS FIRST AID**

Hopefully you'll never need it.

But if something happens, having simple first-aid guidance already on your phone could be incredibly useful.

📝 **3. GOOGLE KEEP**

Simple notes, shopping lists, reminders and ideas.

You can even record thoughts instead of typing them, and your notes sync across devices.

Nothing revolutionary.

Just three apps that can make your phone genuinely more useful.

And all have a free option.

Apple launched the MacBook Neo as its affordable Mac.

Starting price?

**£599.**

Now Apple’s UK price is:

**£699.**

And that changes the conversation.

The base model gives you:

• Apple A18 Pro
• 8GB unified memory
• 256GB SSD
• 13-inch Liquid Retina display
• up to 16 hours of video streaming

It still gives people a cheaper way into macOS…

but once you're spending around £700, you suddenly have a LOT more Windows laptops competing for your money.

And there's another thing I always tell people:

Don't buy a laptop because of the logo.

Buy it based on what you actually need.

For example:

🎨 editing
🎮 gaming
💻 general home use

The “best laptop” isn't always the most expensive one.

It's the one that fits the job.

It sounds backwards.

For years technology gave us MORE screens.

Phone.

Tablet.

Laptop.

Smartwatch.

Now one of the interesting wearable trends of 2026 is doing the opposite:

**removing the screen completely.**

Screenless fitness bands and smart rings can track things such as:

🏃 activity
❤️ heart rate
😴 sleep
📊 recovery and health trends

…but they don’t constantly show you:

notifications
messages
social media
another screen demanding your attention.

You check the information later on your phone.

And I actually think there’s an interesting idea behind this:

**Maybe good technology doesn’t always need more screen time.**

Companies including Google/Fitbit, Garmin and others are now competing in this screen-free wearable category.

So I want your opinion:

Was £700.

Now £250.

Looks like a brilliant deal.

But there’s something many buyers never check:

👉 **How long will it still receive security updates?**

A cheap older phone can look perfectly good:

📱 great screen
📸 decent camera
💾 plenty of storage
💷 low price

…but if manufacturer security support is close to ending, you may be buying a phone that has a much shorter useful life than you expected.

Before buying an older or second-hand phone, check:

✅ how many years of security updates remain
✅ whether the manufacturer still supports that model
✅ battery condition
✅ available storage
✅ physical condition

Price alone doesn’t make something a bargain.

Sometimes paying £50 more for a newer model with several extra years of support is the smarter purchase.

**Buy the phone you need — not just the biggest discount.**

If you use Google Messages on Android and your group conversation suddenly starts appearing as TWO or THREE separate chats…

you’re not imagining it.

Google has acknowledged a bug that can split an existing group conversation into separate threads.

Same people.

Same group.

But suddenly:

❌ new conversation
❌ old message history missing from that thread
❌ replies appearing in different places
❌ complete confusion 😅

Google says it is investigating and working on a fix.

So before you:

restart everything…

delete conversations…

reset your phone…

or blame someone else in the group 😂

**it may simply be a software bug.**

📱 **8 IN 10 PEOPLE WHO PAID FOR A TECH REPAIR WERE SATISFIED WITH IT.**

That number caught my attention.

A new Which? survey looked at people who had paid to repair a:

📱 smartphone
💻 laptop
or
📲 tablet

during the previous two years.

And the results challenge the idea that repairing technology is always difficult or not worth the hassle.

Among those surveyed:

✅ **92%** rated the ease of repair as good
✅ **88%** rated customer service as good
✅ **86%** rated repair speed as good
✅ **84%** rated the quality of the repair as good
✅ **79%** rated value for money as good

That doesn't mean every device should be repaired.

Sometimes replacement genuinely makes more sense.

But I think the important question should be:

**“Is this worth repairing?”**

not automatically:

**“What new one should I buy?”**

That difference can potentially save a lot of money — and keep perfectly usable technology out of a drawer or the bin.

🔧 Repair when it makes sense.
♻️ Replace when it doesn't.

That's a much better conversation.

It looks harmless.

It isn't necessarily the best thing for your screen.

Kitchen roll and tissues can be abrasive and may scratch the surface or its protective coating.

And there are a few other things you probably shouldn't be doing either:

❌ spraying cleaner directly onto the phone
❌ using bleach
❌ using gel hand sanitiser
❌ pushing metal objects into the charging port
❌ blowing into the charging port

A safer basic clean?

✅ switch the phone off
✅ unplug it
✅ use a clean microfibre cloth
✅ use an appropriate wipe if needed
✅ keep moisture away from ports and openings

And here's one people forget:

**check the cloth first.**

A tiny piece of sand trapped in a microfibre cloth can turn your “clean” into a scratched screen.

And this one is worth checking.

WhatsApp has introduced stronger account-security options.

One of the biggest changes?

The old six-digit two-step verification PIN is being upgraded to a proper password that can include:

🔤 letters
🔢 numbers
🔣 special characters

WhatsApp also says more than **1 BILLION people** are now using passkeys.

That means you can verify yourself using things like:

👆 fingerprint
🙂 Face ID / face recognition
🔐 your phone's screen lock

instead of relying only on codes.

And Android users are also getting more information before answering calls from numbers that aren't saved in their contacts.

Why does this matter?

Because account takeovers often start with someone getting hold of a verification code.

So here's your 30-second Saturday job:

Open:

**WhatsApp → Settings → Account**

and check your security settings.

Small change.

Don’t start turning the whole house upside down yet. 😅

There’s a much easier trick.

Both iPhone and Android can be made to ring **even when the phone is on silent.**

🍎 iPhone:

Use **Find My** from another Apple device or Apple’s Find service.

Select the missing iPhone → **Play Sound**

🤖 Android:

Use Google **Find Hub**.

Select the phone → **Play Sound**

The phone can ring loudly even if you previously left it on silent or vibrate.

And there’s another reason you should know how this works:

If your phone ever genuinely goes missing, these same services can help you locate it.

So take 30 seconds today and check that yours is enabled.

I guarantee somebody reading this will need it one day. 😂
