We have now also secured a new supplier for our official BT master sockets at a much cheaper rate so we are passing on the savings to our customers.

Master socket upgrades are now only £30 instead of £40.

We also sell them on their own for £16 if you know how to install them yourself 🙂

We have had quite a few people message asking what the diagram from our last post was supposed to illustrate, so for anyone else who is unsure, below is an explanation....

On the top row (after the badly drawn telegraph pole 😊) the first small box is a BT80b which houses the connection between the thick black external cable which comes from the telegraph pole and the thin white internal cable which goes into your phone sockets.

The second socket is usually an extension socket and the third socket is the Master socket where you will normally plug your broadband router into.

The reason why the top diagram usually gives you a slower connection is that the broadband has to go through 2 junctions before it reaches your master socket and your router.

Imagine you are driving 10 miles....

If you were to take a route through a busy city centre with lots of junctions and traffic lights you would get to your destination slower and move at a slower average speed.

But if you were to take the motorway, you would get there much quicker due to less traffic and and have a higher average speed.

This is why it is important to have as little interference between where your phone line enters the property and the socket where your broadband router is plugged into.

Below is an image of a job we have done recently highlighting the importance of having your router connected to a socket which comes straight off the main feed into the property. This particular customer more than doubled her speed!⚡️

Any extra sockets or junction boxes connected between the main feed and the socket where your router is plugged into maybe having a negative effect on your speed and connection especially if they are old!

A lot of the time service providers will install the master socket in a location which is convenient for them but not the customer. If your master is somewhere where there is no power or in a location which means the signal from the router isn't ideal, then we can relocate it for you. Prices start from £85 if you live in Worcestershire. 🙂
