Hello Dears,

We have recently got an old IBM 5160 for repair from one of our clients. The main repair was done during diagnosis. When it came to our quality testing, we have discovered that we do not have any working XT keyboard in our workshops... ooops! 🫣 However, we quickly realised that instead of purchasing an XT keyboard for over £200, we are able to turn the standard AT PS/2 keyboard (which costs around £5 😁) into an XT one using our knowledge, skills and a small number of components. This tiny project on the photos below did the trick 😃 Step by step:

1. We have drawn a schematic diagram, used PIC12F629 microcontroller to translate AT comands to XT ones. You can see that the input connector is a standard AT PS/2 interface and the output is a 5-pin DIN plug for XT interface.
2. The PCB project has been completed (we used the laser printer and chalk paper sheet to transfer the toner over a raw PCB copper film).
3. The PCB has been etched, holes for THT components drilled and all the copper has been secured with a very thin layer of tin (~50um).
4. All the components have been assembled (PIC12F629 needed a piece of code which we have built and compiled).
5. PCB has been fitted inside the plastic case (we had to secure an XT cable using the tie to prevent it from sliding out).
6. The AT/XT "translator" has been finally tested (we have executed the basic DIR command under DOS). Voila! Everything works!😄

Hiya!

The full retrobrite (and repair as well) has been done to this lovely old fellow - meet 37-years-old (and still in a very good mood) Macintosh Plus 1MB 🙂 We truly LOVE them ❤️ The other one is here for comparison - the one we did was looking exactly the same. It now looks waaaaaaay better, isn't it? 🤩

Dear Customers, from 26th of June 2023 we are changing our weekdays opening hours to better cooperate with all the neighbourhood businesses. Our new weekdays opening hours are now 9.30am to 5.30pm. We do not change Saturday opening hours which stay 10am to 2pm.

Thanks to the generous donation of Astons Coaches and our collection boxes throughout Worcestershire we have just delivered laptop and computers to Major Diane Henderson (left) of the Salvation Army Worcester with the help from one of our directors, Nick Thurgood (right)
All devices are refurbished and their data securely erased by our friends at Bits N PCs and Elvikom Lab.
The Salvation Army Worcester will make sure the devices reach the children who need them most, ready for school in the New Year.
