Volunteering in our communities makes a lasting difference

Today we are taking time to reflect on the impact our colleagues' volunteering days can have, revisiting our colleagues' visit to Glasgow Wood – a local social enterprise and charity creating meaningful opportunities for disadvantaged people across the area.

By rescuing valuable timber that would otherwise end up in landfill, their team of staff and volunteers transform reclaimed materials into high‑quality indoor and outdoor furniture, toys, and bespoke pieces – all while delivering social and environmental value. A powerful example of sustainability in action, rooted in community benefit.

What made the day especially memorable was hearing directly from those involved. Our colleagues shared what it meant to step away from their day-to-day roles and contribute their time and skills, while Glasgow Wood Managing Director Danielle Fletcher spoke passionately about Glasgow Wood’s mission and the people who make it possible.

At Idox, adding value to communities is a long-term commitment. Every employee is entitled to a volunteering day each year, whether individually or as part of a team, to support causes that matter locally.

Idox is proud to put digital accessibility at the heart of every product, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), and every day, to ensure consistent, inclusive practices are formed during all aspects of software development, and to help foster a culture of accessibility online.

David Gibson, Product Design Manager, shared Idox’s principles on accessibility: “Good design solves problems, but great design solves them for everyone. Accessibility challenges us to think more deeply, design more thoughtfully and ultimately deliver better digital experiences.”

Driving change with Idox’s EV scheme

Our sustainability ambitions aren’t limited to board targets - we’re empowering our colleagues in the UK to reduce their carbon footprint with our Electric Vehicle Scheme with Octopus Energy. In partnership with Octopus, this is a simple and more affordable route to owning a brand-new EV.

We are proud to have seen 41 vehicles hit the road, with another 4 to be delivered so far - saving 132 tonnes of CO2 emissions across the lifetime of the vehicles.

Aligning with our broader approach to sustainability - embedding change across our operations and culture, not just in policy. Sustainability and daily choices go hand-in-hand.

When commitment matters more than the clock

Headlines this week will focus on the world marathon world record being smashed, and the two‑hour barrier broken twice in one race. But for non‑elite athletes, simply reaching the finish line – in any time – is a monumental achievement. And to us at Idox, the efforts of Martin Bowman, Specialist Support Manager, are just as newsworthy.

Reflecting on the challenge afterwards, Martin described this year’s race simply as: “Without question, the hardest - physically, mentally, emotionally. It demanded everything.”

This was his sixth marathon and fourth London Marathon, but conditions forced him to adapt before and during the race. As Martin put it: “London has never been about chasing a time for me… but training needs a purpose.”

When injury disrupted training the target shifted: “So the goal changed. Sub‑5 hours. Adjust, adapt, carry on.”
As the heat built during the marathon, and began to take its toll, priorities shifted again. “The goal changed again. Not time. Not pace. Just finish. Run, walk. Control the heart rate… Manage what was left.”

Crossing the line brought relief coupled with celebration. “Not the time I came for but in that moment, none of that mattered. Just the overwhelming release of getting there.”

For Martin, the London Marathon is about more than running. “It’s never just about the running… It’s about the people. They carry you when your body won’t.”

Crossing the finish line is only part of the story. Martin’s journey began in 2017, inspired by family, but soon took on a deeper meaning when his wife was diagnosed with primary breast cancer. Following her successful treatment, Martin, or Pepe as he is known to his grandchildren, committed to using his running to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now, supporting their work so that fewer families have to face the same experience.

At Idox, we’re proud to celebrate the people behind our roles – and the values they demonstrate both in and outside of work. Congratulations, Martin. An inspiring achievement and one that truly reflects your commitment.

Our Net Zero ambition

Environmental responsibility is a key pillar of our long-term strategy at Idox. We have set a clear ambition to achieve net zero by 2040, underpinned by a structured three-step approach

❌ Eliminating emissions where possible.
⬇️ Reducing impact where elimination is not yet viable.
🌿 Offsetting what remains.

Many of the changed working practices that we introduced in 2021, and which have positively impacted our carbon emissions, have been retained with emissions in 2025 being 58% down on the baseline year.

To meet our 2040 net carbon zero goal, we aim to achieve a 45% decrease in carbon emissions at the end of our 3-year plan period to 31st October 2028 compared with 2019. The progress we have already made shows that we are firmly on track.

As a software and data business, our operational footprint is inherently lower than many industries, but we recognise that every organisation has a role to play. We continue to assess how we can minimise environmental impact across our operations - from office usage to travel - while also helping customers improve their own sustainability outcomes.
