🚨 Major Google Cloud outage affecting UK services

A significant outage affecting Google Cloud's London infrastructure is causing disruption to websites, applications and online services across the UK today (20 October).

Services experiencing reported problems include:

🔴 Revolut, including card payments, transfers and cash withdrawals

🔴 Lloyds Bank and HSBC online banking

🔴 Rightmove

🔴 DPD delivery services

🔴 Screwfix online services

🔴 Some online payment processing services

Not all reported problems have been confirmed as directly related to the Google Cloud outage.

What does this mean for your business?

🤖 Fake Claude Downloads Spreading Malware

Cyber criminals are using Google Ads and legitimate Bing redirect links to trick Mac users into visiting fake download pages for Claude, the popular AI assistant.

The fake website displays what appears to be a genuine installation command. However, clicking the copy button secretly copies a different, malicious command that can download and execute malware when pasted into Terminal.

⚠️ A familiar website address or sponsored search result does not guarantee safety. This attack relies on convincing people to run malicious commands themselves, rather than exploiting a software vulnerability.

🛍️ ASOS Customer Data Breach

ASOS has confirmed unauthorised activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers. Some shoppers received suspicious notifications through the genuine ASOS app, directing them towards an external link.

The company says names and contact details may have been accessed, although payment card information and account passwords are not believed to have been affected.

⚠️ Customers should be alert for follow-up phishing emails and scams, particularly messages claiming to involve ASOS orders, deliveries, refunds or account problems. Criminals can use genuine personal information to make fraudulent messages appear more convincing.
