Did you know a reboot does wonders?

We always recommend turning off your device when you're not using it.
However if you leave it on all the time, give it a reboot once a week to keep things in good shape.

3 more common tech myths

1. Updates deliberately slow down your device to make you buy a new one

This is a common myth that actually has some truth to it. While Apple was caught doing this in 2017, the reasoning behind it was to prevent older iPhones with weaker batteries from shutting down. Once the battery was replaced, the phone would return to normal speed. The reason your device is slowing down is due to age and the number of applications installed over time. We always recommend a refresh to keep things running smoothly.

2. Using aftermarket chargers will damage your device

While it is true that using aftermarket chargers and cables can damage your device, using a charger and cable from a reputable company like Anker and Ugreen won’t cause any issues. It’s important to stay away from chargers that don’t have a brand or manufacturer

3. Putting your phone in rice saves it from water damage

The oldest myth here. Putting your phone in rice will not only prevent water damage, but it will also likely trap moisture in the phone, causing further damage to the device over time. Even if the device is working after being left in rice, moisture is still inside and will cause shorts and corrosion. It’s best to turn your device off, leave it in a warm room for 24 to 48 hours to dry before attempting to power the device on again.

3 common tech myths:

1. Mac’s don’t get viruses:

Mac’s do get viruses, though less common than Windows. Whilst modern web browsers offer security against malicious websites by default, we always recommend Anti-Virus (ESET, Avast, Norton) and making sure your Mac is running the latest version of macOS.

2. You should let your battery run down to 0%:

You should never run any device battery down to 0%. Doing this occasionally is ok, but doing this frequently overtime will damage your devices battery as it decreases the battery’s capacity leading to being dependent on a nearby plug.

3. Leaving your phone plugged in overnight overheats the battery:

All smartphones and laptops have safety features in place that prevent the battery from being charged past 100%. Once the battery reaches 100%, the device’s battery management system cuts power to the battery to prevent it from charging further.
