WE’RE HIRING - MOBILE HGV TECHNICIAN

Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we’re looking for an experienced Mobile HGV Technician to join our team at The Scottish Tech Fleet Support.

Based in West Lothian, we provide mobile maintenance, repairs and breakdown assistance across Scotland. We’re looking for a qualified technician who is confident working independently, flexible with working hours and willing to travel wherever the job takes them.

The role will involve:

• Repairs and maintenance on HGVs, trailers and light commercial vehicles
• Roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs
• Fault finding and diagnostics
• Routine safety inspections
• Servicing and MOT preparation
• General mechanical and electrical repairs

What we’re looking for:

• A fully qualified mechanic with relevant qualifications
• Previous experience working on HGVs and trailers
• A team player who is willing to help others and work together to get the job done
• Ability to work independently, use initiative and solve problems
• Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Class 1 or Class 2 HGV licence would be an advantage but is not essential
• Reliable, hardworking and takes pride in their work
• Flexibility with working hours and willingness to travel throughout Scotland
• Willingness to participate in an on call rota, including evenings and weekends

This isn’t your typical workshop based 9 to 5 position. Our work takes us across Scotland, and the nature of mobile maintenance and roadside breakdowns means that flexibility is an important part of the job.

We’re a small but growing team and we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of that growth for the long term. Teamwork is important to us and while you’ll need to be comfortable working independently, we also expect everyone to support each other and pull together when needed.

We’re looking for someone who takes their work seriously, has a positive attitude and shares our commitment to providing a reliable, professional service to our customers.

🔧 SCANIA R580 V8 | COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD 🔧

Last week we took on a slightly bigger job than your average roadside repair…

This Scania R580 V8 came to us pressurising the cooling system and losing coolant. After investigation, the fault was traced to a failed liner seal, meaning it was time to get properly stuck into the V8.

The engine was stripped right down, including:

🔹 All 8 cylinder heads removed
🔹 Injectors, manifolds and associated components removed
🔹 Pistons and liners removed
🔹 Full clean and preparation
🔹 New liners and seals installed
🔹 New pistons fitted to the conrods
🔹 Engine completely rebuilt
🔹 Fresh oil, filters and coolant
🔹 Fully tested and checked after completion

A serious amount of work, but the end result was exactly what we wanted. The R580 is back together, running perfectly and back out working at 100%. 💪🚛

We filmed the rebuild along the way too. There’s a 4-part series over on our TikTok showing the process from stripping the V8 down to getting it fired back up again. 🎥
