🛠️ From OEM Compatibility Headache to Clean Custom Gaming Rig!

Swapping older parts into a shiny new case, only to run into proprietary part limits?

That's exactly what happened with a recent client build! They brought in a PC where older components had been transferred into a modern aftermarket gaming case.

❌ However, the original Dell Optiplex motherboard was designed strictly for its original OEM enclosure. Proprietary front-panel headers, non-standard mounting points, and power connectors mean these boards don't play nicely with standard cases long-term!

Instead of fighting proprietary hardware, we gave this rig a proper modern overhaul with standard parts:

🔷 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
🔷 Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2
🔷 RAM: 16GB Crucial DDR4
🔷 Power Supply: 750W PSU

🧑🏻‍🏫 The Lesson: When planning a PC upgrade or case swap—especially with pre-built machines like Dell, HP, or Lenovo—it always pays to have a professional check compatibility first. OEM parts often use custom shapes and pinouts that aren't plug-and-play with off-the-shelf gaming gear.

🔋 FAILED our refurbished laptop testing — here’s why:

We supply both brand-new and professionally refurbished computers — but when it comes to refurbished machines, we don't just give them a quick clean and call them ready to go.

Every refurbished computer we sell is fully tested. 🔍

Take this HP EliteBook as an example. During our testing, we checked the battery health and found that it had dropped to less than 70% of its original capacity.

That matters.

A refurbished laptop with a significantly degraded battery might still look great and work perfectly — but its battery life could be nowhere near what you'd reasonably expect.

Unfortunately, not every refurbished computer seller takes the same approach. Some sellers may supply machines with heavily degraded batteries and rely on small-print exclusions stating that batteries aren't included in their testing or warranty.

That's not how we do things.

At Computerworks, we test the important components so we can identify issues before the computer reaches you — including battery condition where applicable.
