Binding Store Ltd are thrilled to pair up with ” The Rusty Press” ( Les Baynam ) to offer you this absoloutley amazing restoration of a Imperial Hot Foil (Arming) Press!
Hampson Bettridge were fine makers of Bookbinding Presses during the 1800’s through to the early 1900’s.
This Hot Foil (Arming) Press was made in the late 1890’s when Hampson Bettridge & Co were at 35/36/37 Cloth Fair in London. Cloth Fair, Smithfield was the heart of the Cloth Industry.
The Press was originally heated by Gas (original Gas Pipes have been kept). The Imperial Press was favoured by Bookbinders due to the massive pressure that could be acheived with little effort.
The Press has had a full back to bare metal restoration and has been converted from Gas to electric using the latest thermostatic heat controller and elements. The Temperature control Box has been mounted to the side as to not distract from the 19th century features.
This Press has been tastefully converted and has some really nice features as follows:- Large sliding Bed, (380mm x 350mm) plus an extension bed at the rear. Adjustable wheel at the front (left) to increase or decrease pressure. An adjustable wheel at the front (centre) which can finely adjust the back to front movement of the sliding bed from 0-50mm which allows for precise positioning of the blocking image. An overal height of the bed can be simply adjusted by a single lever at the rear of the Press which will allow for thicker material to be used or type.
