Don't think you need a third party Microsoft 365 backup solution? Most businesses assume Microsoft automatically backs up their data, and they don't need another service. But here’s the catch:

➡️ Microsoft protects its platform and infrastructure
➡️ You are responsible for backing up your company’s data

Why a third-party backup is necessary:
- Microsoft's liability: Microsoft's service level agreements state they are not liable for data loss and recommend customers have their own backups.
- Shared responsibility: Data protection is a shared responsibility between you and Microsoft. Microsoft ensures the service is running, but it's up to you to back up your data.
- Protection against common threats: Third-party backups protect against accidental deletions, malicious attacks, and human errors that Microsoft's built-in tools don't cover.
- Compliance and recovery: Implementing a third-party backup helps meet regulatory compliance requirements and provides faster, more reliable data recovery options.
- Follows the 3-2-1- rule: Following the 3-2-1 rule (three copies of data, on two different storage types, with one copy off-site) is a best practice for comprehensive backup, and a third-party solution helps achieve this.

Microsoft's retention policies are designed for temporary recovery. They're not a backup, they’re a short-term safety net. Accidental deletion, ransomware and insider threats can lead to permanent data loss. That's why TERRA is here to help. Our M365 backup solutions give you frequent backups, instant recovery, and long-term retention that ensures business continuity and peace of mind.

As Cybersecurity Awareness Month comes to an end, here’s your reminder: it only takes one click to put your business at risk.

Are your employees equipped to stop threats before they start?

- Can they spot a suspicious email?
- Do they understand the risks of outdated software?
- Are they using strong, secure passwords - or reusing the same ones everywhere?

The best defence isn’t just technology - it’s people who know what to look for.

Give your team the tools to stay cyber aware. TERRA can help you deliver engaging, practical security training that actually sticks - because awareness shouldn’t end in October.
