Is that bargain charger really worth the risk?
We're seeing more and more low-quality phone accessories bought online that simply aren't up to standard. While they might save you a few pounds, poor-quality chargers and cables can overheat, damage your phone, shorten battery life and, in the worst cases, become a serious fire risk.
Before buying phone accessories, here are a few things to check:
👉Look for a CE or UKCA marking on the product or packaging. These indicate the manufacturer claims the product meets the relevant safety requirements for sale in the UK.
👉If it has a UK 3-pin plug, make sure it has a BS 1363 safety fuse and a sturdy, well-made plug.
👉Check that the packaging includes the manufacturer's name and contact details. If there's no way to identify who made it, that's a warning sign.
👉Be wary of poor-quality printing, spelling mistakes or prices that seem too good to be true.
👉Buy from a trusted retailer that stands behind the products they sell.
At The Phone Whisperer, we only stock accessories that meet the appropriate safety standards because your safety and your device matter to us.
💡 If a charger gets unusually hot, makes buzzing noises, smells of burning plastic, or the cable starts splitting, stop using it immediately and replace it. These are warning signs that the accessory is unsafe.
A cheap charger isn't a bargain if it ends up damaging your phone or creating a safety risk.
