Well, after all the excitement of Thursday night (see our previous post!), it's back to business as usual.

A sunny Saturday morning delivery, this time to Normanton. ☀️

We're helping a young lad (age 11-16), let's call him Dean, who's been finding things difficult recently following a diagnosis of autism and has been working through some challenges with his emotional wellbeing.

He's missed a significant amount of school, and his Mum is keen to make sure he doesn't miss out on his education while he works towards returning.

Dean has been trying to access school support and digital learning resources using his smartphone. As you can imagine, far from ideal for keeping up with schoolwork.

Now, Dean has his own fast Windows 11 laptop, giving him much better access to online learning and the resources he needs to continue his education at his own pace with a proper screen.

We wish Dean and his family all the very best.

A big thank you to Rosie, Dean's Youth Engagement Worker at Wakefield Council, for referring Dean to us, and to our generous donor, PH Jones, for donating the laptop in the first place.

This afternoon, we provided a laptop to a young person - let's call her Gaynor.

Gaynor should be starting Year 11, but life hasn't given her the easiest of starts. After experiencing significant challenges growing up and lengthy periods of social care involvement, circumstances mean that returning to mainstream education isn't currently possible. Instead, she's continuing her education from home.

Recently, Gaynor moved to live with her father, bringing an opportunity for a fresh start. However, there was a problem. Without a laptop, accessing online learning and continuing her education was becoming increasingly difficult.

Her application was supported by Claire, an Education Welfare Officer at Wakefield Council. Listening to Claire speak about her role, it was impossible not to notice the passion and determination she has to help young people improve their life chances and achieve better outcomes.

Thank you to everyone who donates devices, funds refurbishments, or supports Wakefield Technology 4 All. Every laptop has a story behind it, and today's story is a reminder of why this work matters.

Second delivery of the day is Lupset. We're helping a young lady we'll call Lyndsey, who's recently started college after a difficult time during high school.

She's now working towards resitting some of her core subjects and getting her education back on track. Having a laptop of her own will make a real difference, giving her the tools she needs to complete her college work and build confidence in her studies.

With money tight at home, buying a laptop simply wasn't an option, so we're really pleased we could help.

And a big thank you to our generous donor, PH Jones, for donating the laptop and helping us get it into the hands of someone who really needs it.

Last year, our Chris was invited onto the We Are Wakefield podcast to talk about his business. As often happens, the conversation soon turned to Wakefield Technology 4 All and the work we do in the community.

We never actually shared it here (we forgot!) at the time, so here it is. If you'd like a quick listen, jump to 23:09 and listen through to 29:00 for a six-minute segment covering the project.

Happy Friday, everyone! ☀️ A sunny delivery this afternoon, this time to a young man we'll call Brian.

Brian is studying horticulture at Wakefield College, where, like so many students, all his academic work is set through Microsoft 365.

Last year, Brian managed to complete all his work on time using just his mobile phone. That takes significant effort, and it certainly isn't the easiest way to study!

This laptop will make completing Brian's college work much easier and help him produce work to an even better standard. It'll also come in handy when he starts applying for an apprenticeship next year, helping him put together his CV and take that next step towards his career.

Brian, we were really impressed with you — both your application and the way you've communicated with us throughout. You've clearly got a great attitude, and we hope this laptop helps you make the most of your studies and future opportunities.

Well done, Brian, and all the very best for the futur

Today's delivery took us to Lupset to a lady we'll call Julia — not her real name.

Julia is currently having dialysis and, as you can imagine, that takes a lot out of her physically and can really limit her independence. But she's determined not to let the hurdles she's facing get in the way of her future.

She wants to use the laptop to take online courses, apply for jobs and keep learning. More importantly, Julia has a real vision for the future — she'd love to find work where she can help others, drawing on the experiences and challenges she's faced herself.

Until now, she only had a phone. As Julia said to us today, websites don't always work properly on a phone — and even when they do, it's hard work!

Having a laptop of her own will give Julia much more opportunity to learn, develop her skills and work towards the future she wants.

We wish you all the very best, Julia. Keep doing what you're doing.

This one was for a local couple who we'll call Graham and Natasha.

Both spend their working lives helping other people in the community, supporting some of the most vulnerable people around Wakefield. But sometimes, the people who help others need a bit of help themselves.

They're currently going through some financial turbulence, so having a laptop of their own will make a real difference — giving them the tools they need to continue doing what they do.

We're really pleased we could help and hope this laptop enables them to keep helping others for many years to come.

And, as always, a big thank you to CDS UK for donating the laptop in the first place. 💻

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of receiving a donation of 13 retired laptops from PH Jones (https://phjones.co.uk/).

While they were no longer needed by the business, Andy Buck (Head of Information Systems) recognised that, once securely erased and refurbished, these devices could continue to make a real difference in the community. Instead of heading to landfill, they will now help bridge the digital divide that still affects so many people today. Extending the life of existing technology also reduces the demand for new devices, helping to delay the energy-intensive process of extracting, refining and manufacturing the raw materials that go into them.

This is a hugely significant donation for us. Thirteen families will directly benefit from these laptops, helping children with schoolwork, adults find employment, people learn new skills, and charities continue their valuable work without spending precious funds on technology.

Every device donated creates an opportunity for someone who otherwise may not have access to one.

Thank you, Andy, and thank you to everyone at PH Jones for your generosity and support. It will make a genuine difference to people's lives.

Today's delivery was nice and local to us — Horbury. We met a Mum and daughter, who we'll call Tracey and Hannah.

Hannah is at college and lives with narcolepsy, cataplexy and autism. The narcolepsy and cataplexy in particular can have a real impact on day-to-day life, so Hannah has plenty to contend with alongside her education.

It was clear from talking to them Mum, just how much she does to support Hannah. She really is a fantastic Mum! Supermum!

This laptop is going to make a real difference to Hannah — helping her with her college work, developing her skills and giving her the technology she needs to support her future career.

We were really pleased to be able to help, and it was lovely to see how pleased Tracey was with the laptop.

And, as always, a big thank you to CDS UK for donating the laptop in the first place. We’re sorry to bleat on about it, but these laptops really are making a real difference to people's lives.
