Some topics cannot be filmed.

Policy, ecology, systems and processes can be difficult to communicate through live footage alone, particularly when they happen underground, underwater or over decades.

Our Animation Explainer Videos service helps organisations explain these subjects through bespoke animation and motion design. Every film is custom illustrated, rather than built from a template.

For conservation and land management organisations, animation can clarify policy, regulation or ecological processes. Fisheries and rivers organisations can use it to show catchments, life cycles or restoration methods. It can also help public bodies communicate consultations, guidance or safety, and give charities a strong single asset for a fundraising campaign.

A 30 page policy can become a focused 90 second film. A salmon life cycle can be shown in full, even where the individual stages would be difficult or impossible to capture.

Projects can include custom illustrated 2D animation, mixed media animation over real footage, or clean motion design over data. Short explainer films usually run from 60 to 180 seconds for websites, social media and events. Longer animated segments, from two to five minutes, can support internal training or public consultation.

The process starts with the script, followed by a storyboard, style frames, animation, sound and voice. Each stage has an approval point, giving your team a clear opportunity to review the work before it moves forward.

Finished work can be supplied as web, social and broadcast masters. Illustrated stills can also be created for publications and social use, while editable project files are kept for future updates.

Good communications start with a clear plan.

For conservation charities, rural estates, fisheries and environmental groups, a communications strategy helps guide how you build support, secure funding and manage your reputation. It moves your organisation beyond reactive posts and press releases towards a focused, purposeful approach.

Our Communications and Marketing Strategy service begins with your organisation, not a template.

We speak to leadership, staff, trustees and key partners to understand your goals, challenges and internal perspectives. We analyse the audiences you need to influence, from policymakers and funders to the wider public, and review what peer organisations are doing.

We then run a focused workshop with your core team. This is an opportunity to test assumptions, agree priorities and build consensus around the strategic direction.

The result is a clear, practical written plan that your whole team can use. It defines the key messages you need to communicate consistently, identifies your priority audiences and considers what those audiences care about.

It also provides a realistic channel plan based on your aims and capacity. That might include long-form articles for your website or targeted LinkedIn updates for policymakers.

This strategic foundation helps connect day-to-day communications with wider organisational goals. It gives press releases, social posts and other content a clear purpose, while helping your team make informed decisions rather than responding to immediate demands.

Every strategy is developed collaboratively and built around the specific needs of the organisation. The final document provides a shared guide for telling a consistent, powerful story across your marketing and public relations.

In 2025, the Mill of Eden weir was removed from the King Edward tributary as part of Project Deveron, a catchment scale wild salmon recovery programme.

Delivered by The Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust and Atlantic Salmon Trust, the removal was one of the largest early habitat wins for the River Deveron.

WILDigital was asked to document the engineering works and tell the story of what the removal means for wild salmon recovery.

Filming was planned around the works, allowing us to record the site before, during and after the removal. We combined ground footage with aerial filming to show the changes at the site, while long lens river footage helped establish the wider setting.

Interviews with the trust team and partners at Atlantic Salmon Trust, Chivas Brothers and the European Open Rivers Programme placed the work within the wider mission. These on camera contributions helped explain the importance of partnership and the role of the project in supporting salmon recovery.

The finished film brought the footage and interviews together in an edited piece for web and social use. It gave the partnership a shareable centrepiece for fundraising, funder reporting and public communications.

The film has also been used to demonstrate real, measurable progress on wild salmon recovery in the north east of Scotland.

Our work included on site filming across the works period, aerial documentation before and after the removal, partner interviews on camera, and the final edit.

This case study shows how planned filming across different stages of a project can create a clear record of practical conservation work, while giving partners a useful way to communicate its purpose and progress.

A brand needs to do more than look consistent. It needs to give funders, members, partners and customers a clear sense of who you are and what you do.

Our branding, design and print service covers naming, identity, guidelines and applied brand systems. It is built for use across print, screen and site signage.

This may mean creating a name and mark for a new conservation project, trust or partnership. It could involve refreshing an established organisation whose identity no longer reflects its work, or supporting an estate or rural business launching accommodation, tourism, a farm shop, or a food and drink line.

We also develop sub-brands for public body campaigns that need to sit clearly within a parent identity.

The practical outcome is a clear, defensible name and mark, supported by colour, typography and imagery systems. We create guidelines that staff and agencies can use, along with templates for the documents and channels that matter to your organisation.

Where relevant, this can include primary and secondary marks, photography and illustration styles, stationery, presentation and publication templates, social templates, signage, exhibition materials and vehicle livery. Print production can also be managed where required.

Our process starts with discovery, followed by name and mark exploration where relevant. We then develop two or three identity routes, refine the selected direction, produce guidelines and roll the system out across the most important assets first.

The service also covers selective refresh work, sub-branding and endorsement systems for organisations working with an existing identity.

For 130 years, the United Clyde Angling Protective Association has worked to protect and restore the River Clyde.

To mark this anniversary, UCAPA asked us to create a documentary film honouring the volunteers, workers and communities who helped rebuild the Clyde into one of Scotland’s great wild trout rivers.

The film, A Way of Life, tells the story of the river, its anglers and a century of conservation. It follows the Clyde from its industrial heritage to the volunteer effort that continues today, giving equal weight to people and place.

We combined archive material with contemporary river cinematography and long form interviews with UCAPA members and conservation partners. Drone filming helped establish the river and its wider landscape, while the interviews brought together the experiences and perspectives of those connected to its care.

The finished documentary includes a long form edit, member and partner interviews, archive integration and delivery across multiple platforms.

The film has been used at member events, in schools and across social channels. It supports UCAPA’s work to recruit new volunteers and reinforces the case for continued conservation investment on the Clyde.

As the UCAPA committee put it, “It captures who we are and why the Clyde matters.”

This project shows how archive, interviews and footage of the river can bring an organisation’s history and present-day work into one clear narrative. For conservation and fisheries organisations, long form film can provide space for the people behind the work to be heard, while keeping the place itself at the centre of the story.

Good river management depends on clear, practical communications.

WILDigital works with rivers trusts, district salmon fishery boards, catchment partnerships, angling associations, wild fisheries bodies and private fishery operators across Scotland.

We build websites and digital tools that support both fisheries and conservation work. That can include online permit and day ticket sales, syndicate management, beat let systems, payment handling and catch return integration.

For trusts and conservation partnerships, we create interactive catchment maps that show habitat work, restoration projects, monitoring stations and river conditions. We also develop reporting tools and templates to help organisations manage the different requirements of funders.

Film and campaign work can make remote or complex projects visible to the public, funders and regulators. Our work covers Atlantic salmon recovery, dam removal, abstraction, river restoration and freshwater ecosystems. We work with biologists, ghillies and researchers to make sure the science is right.

Typical projects include rivers trust and fishery board websites, donation flows, public engagement tools, annual reports, funder updates, documentary films and long term communications.

Our approach starts on the water. We attend river management meetings, walk beats with ghillies and film when the fish are running. This helps us produce work that makes sense to anglers, biologists, managers and funders.

Smaller trusts can begin with the essentials. We scope projects in phases, allowing organisations to add capability over time.

If your organisation needs to let beats, issue permits, record catches, report restoration work or explain a campaign clearly, our fisheries and rivers service sets out how we can help.

Today marks 25 years to the day since the Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust was founded.

For us at WILDigital, it was a real honour to be in the literal passenger seat - being driven around the catchment, meeting the people behind the work and seeing first-hand just how much good is being done for the River Deveron with its partners and the communities around it.

Our objective with this film was simple: to try and replace that passenger-seat view with you, the viewer. To take you around the catchment with us, introduce you to the people doing the work, and give you a genuine sense of what 25 years of commitment, collaboration and care for a river looks like. But also to meet the potential next 25 years worth of custodians.

In truth, there’s so much going on, it could easily have been a 10-part series. We somehow managed to get away with just shy of half an hour.

Released today to mark the Trust’s 25th anniversary, the film looks back at where it all began, what has been achieved, and where the Deveron goes next.

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us, gave up their time, shared their stories and trusted us to tell them.

As Jim says at the end - “I look forward to the 50th anniversary of the Trust”. With every hope the next generation will learn from the last and strengthen the work even more going further.

Most rural stories need to be filmed where the work happens. On a hillside, riverbank, farm, fishery or working estate.

WILDigital provides film and video production across Scotland in the Highlands, Borders, Central Belt, and Islands. We work on location, with a low-impact approach and the people doing the work. We do not use stock footage or AI-generated video.

The service covers documentary, brand, campaign, event, training and interpretation films for organisations that live or operate outdoors. This includes estates, farms, fisheries, charities, membership bodies, rural businesses, outdoor brands, public bodies and partnerships.

Projects can include website hero films that reduce bouncing traffic, campaign and fundraising films that raise money, recruitment and induction films for hard-to-hire roles, celebrations like 25th anniversaries and event coverage that lasts beyond the day. We also produce long-form documentaries that open policy conversations.

Our process includes a scoping visit, written treatment and shoots planned around weather, people and access. Clients control the edit review cycles, with final delivery provided in the aspect ratios required for each channel.

Typical deliverables include hero films, social cuts, vertical edits, trailers, event highlights, standalone interviews, drone plates, still frames and licensed b-roll libraries. We can also write narration and presenter scripts, and provide an on-location teleprompter for pieces to camera.

Recent work includes a Fish Around The Forth film for a whole-business platform launch, the Our Wild Salmon Series for Fisheries Management Scotland, and A Watershed Moment for the Deveron and Atlantic Salmon Trust.

How do you make the case for balanced, effective conservation while keeping the message rooted in lived experience?

GWCT Scotland and the Countryside Alliance partnered on a film exploring the role of rural land managers in protecting red listed species.

For Our conservation journeys, we built the film around the people carrying out conservation work on the ground. Filming took place on estates and farms across Scotland, bringing together personal accounts from real practitioners with evidence at a landscape scale.

This practitioner led approach gave the film a clear foundation. Rather than treating conservation as an abstract policy issue, it shows how land managers understand their local landscapes and the practical work involved in protecting species.

The multi location Scottish shoot also allowed the film to reflect different settings and experiences. Film and video production was supported by drone filming, helping to connect individual stories with the wider landscapes in which the work takes place.

The result is a policy grade communications asset shared by both organisations. It is being used across policy engagement, membership communications and public campaigns to support the case for practical, evidence led conservation.

Shared partner delivery was central to the project. The finished film gives GWCT Scotland and the Countryside Alliance a common asset, shaped around their joint message and suitable for several audiences and communications settings.

This case study covers the challenge, brief, strategic approach and outcome, alongside the film and drone services used to deliver it.
