A few months back I was introduced to Charlie’s Promise via my stepdaughter and in that moment I felt compelled to reach out and offer my support in any way I could.
If you’ve not heard of Charlie’s Promise, Martin and Tara sadly lost their son Charlie to knife crime in 2023, and in the moment of losing him Martin made a promise to dedicate his life to educating young people about the devastating dangers and impact of knife crime.
I’ve been liaising with Tara ever since, and today I was honoured to be invited to one of Martin’s school talks. I knew it would be emotional, but the way Martin delivers it, and watching the children in that room, the way they listened, the respect they showed, the way they really took it all in - there are just no words.
As a mother, hearing what this family has been through is something I can’t even comprehend, and it’s exactly why I want to support them in any way that I can.
