Happy Pokémon Day 2026!

Today marks not only Pokémon day, but it's also the 30th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise.

This date marks the anniversary of the original release of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan in 1996, on the Nintendo GameBoy. (Red & Blue in the UK/EU/US game regions)

There will be plenty of announcements from the Pokémon company throughout the day, including a Live Stream at 2pm (UK time) featuring announcements and updates related to the franchise.

If you have a Nintendo Switch, then you may wish to check out Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, which are launching today on the Nintendo eShop.

These are remakes of the original games, and one of the best ways to experience some of the best Pokémon games, especially if you're new to the first games, and have only played the more recent titles.

But, what has all of this got to do with Faceless Monkey? Well, ever since I can remember, Pokémon has always been a huge part of the shop's history, as I bought and traded some of my very first Pokémon cards when Luke Pocock had the shop down at Pool Market in the early 2000's, and I've had fond memories of buying and trading cards ever since.

I remember trading some of the original holographic cards in years later for... not a huge amount, but they went to the right place, as I'd had some great deals from those days, including some Japanese Neo Set binders, which I enjoyed having in my collection.

Indeed, one of those Japanese Neo Set binders came full-circle as I traded it back into Faceless Monkey in 2023 to Becca when she was running the shop, in addition to some other cards, including a holo Venusaur card from the Expedition set. I was grateful to receive a Pikachu on the Ball sealed promo card from Becca, which I still have, and it was through many great positive trades and interactions at the shop which got me back into properly collecting Pokémon cards again, with my favourite still being Venusaur.

Over the past couple of years, even though the shops inventory of Videogames, Toys, Comics and Graphic Novels has grown a lot - I'm still working on reducing the stock levels - it's Pokémon which has remained a staple of the business, particularly with single Pokémon cards being one of the most popular items stocked.

While every day looks different, I'll always have boxes of Pokémon cards ready to browse at a moment's notice, even if you see me just get to the shop at the market, and it doesn't appear open, if I'm there, and if you're looking for Pokémon cards, I'm always happy to get the Pokémon card boxes out.

Upon opening at around 12pm, the "Pokémon Tables" are set up, where you'll see at least two full card boxes featuring cards from £1 and upwards, an area where I sort cards, pricing them up throughout the day, and a selection of assorted Pokémon goods including packs of themed sleeves at £4 each, pin badges from £3 and upwards, some vintage "Pocket Monster" pins, marbles, deck boxes and much more.

Pokémon Mystery Tins are also available, as these have been a long-standing part of the shop stock, and still only priced at £10 per tin. Inside each mini-tin, there are now 33 cards, consisting of 10 X Common, 10 X Uncommon, 3 X Trainer, 5 X Reverse Holo, 4 X Holo and 1 X "V" Pokémon cards. All of the cards in the current tins are all from the Mega Evolutions set, aside from the V card which is from a discontinued set.

Mystery Tins can be a great alternative to sealed packs, as while there's unlikely to be any very rare cards in the tins, you do get a reasonable amount of cards, and you know what kind of cards you're getting, but not which ones exactly, so there's still that element of surprise.

From today, until Saturday there will be discounts and deals on many Pokémon products, there will also be a complete set of all 9 Eeveelution plushes in the cabinet, next to the tables. They are all official Pokémon Centre plushes, in excellent condition with most of the plushes typically retailing for £15 each. The set of all 9 will be available for £111 (just under £12.50 per plush) or £14 per plush is there's enough demand to sell individually.

To anyone who has stopped by the shop to chat, or to buy or sell item, thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you all at the shop soon.

There will surely be more posts to follow in the future, as I have plans to make room for all of the Pokémon stock, while lessening the amount of Videogames, Consoles, Toys and Comics to a more manageable and sensible amount.

Shop opening times are now 12pm - 4:45pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Closed Sunday and Monday.

Anyway, for now have an excellent Pokémon Day 2026! Stop by and share your favourite memories of Pokémon, or just come down to browse some cards. There's new stock in as of yesterday (see last photo) including the Mega Charizard EX 028 Promo Card at just £33 with discount, from tomorrow through to Saturday only.

All the best,
Sam

I realise that it's "Small Business Saturday" and that it's free parking in Truro on this day, but I'm trying something different with the business, as I was offered a full weekend to sell at Trevena Cross Nurseries Garden Centre, at their Christmas market.

I've already attended for one Sunday, two weeks ago, as some will be aware, as I've since gained new business from people since this visit, bringing more peope into Pannier Market Truro, who might not have otherwise visited.

Last weekend, I supported Pannier Market, for the full weekend including the Saturday and Sunday. Business at both places has been good.

This weekend, I want to see how Faceless Monkey is received over both days at Trevena Cross, as I believe it will be good for all businesses involved.

Of course, this means that Faceless Monkey won't be open in Truro this weekend, however if you're planning on visiting anyway, then I recommend that you visit the Truro Pannier Market and support the many other fantastic local businesses, available under one roof, as a lot of work goes into the place, and it's an excellent place to visit, which I'm glad to be a part of.

If you are looking for Pokémon cards this weekend, or even toys and games, then I recommend visiting Harry’s Toy Chest in Victoria Square, as the long-running shop is celebrating its sixth anniversary, where there will be plenty of exciting items to buy, and prizes to be won for those who attend. (see page for full details)

I'd like to wish all staff members and customers of Harry's Toy Chest all the best for what is sure to be an excellent day for everyone involved, let's just hope for some favourable weather.

As for myself, I'll be running Faceless Monkey from Trevena Cross, there will be a table full of Pokémon cards, including many new cards featuring Eeveelutions, some cards from Phantasmal Flames (the latest set) plus newly made Mystery Tins, pin badges, and a selection of 3D prints. (the 3D prints are also available in the Pannier Market over the weekend)

Come down and visit if you can, though I'll soon be back to sorting and selling at the Pannier Market, as the busy month of December is upon us.

Don't forget, this Wednesday is late night shopping, and myself, and many other businesses will be staying the course for either some, most or all of the day and evening. So if you've been looking for gifts, then this Wednesday could be a good time to get some shopping done.

Wishing everyone all the best for the weekend, let's make it a great one, wherever you are.

Thanks for your support, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the shop soon.

All the best,
Sam

Faceless Monkey is celebrating Two Years since trading under new ownership.

Thank you to Becca Tessa Pocock, and everyone involved in reopening the shop, over three years ago now.

Indeed, as with last year, there is still a lot of work to be done, though there will be some progress soon as some essential market maintenance will be happening at the end of this month, which would seem like a good time to reorganise and lessen the amount of stock in the shop.

More details to follow, on the reorganisation, but I will mention that Pokémon cards will be involved, as I have a lot of cards, so more space will be allocated

But for now, if you're in the market today, you'd be more than welcome to stop by to chat about the place and perhaps share some memories of Faceless Monkey's original owner, Luke Pocock, who is still missed every day.

Or for anyone who is new to the shop, and remembers Becca, who is currently living in Australia, perhaps you'd like to share some memories of visiting the shop a few years ago, when she ran the shop beautifully.

I've been running the shop for two years now, and it has been wonderful to meet many people, and make some friends both old and new, talking about all things videogames, and Pokémon all while enjoying the excellent Pannier Market, with it's wide range of unique independent businesses.

I'd like to get the shop back to the best it can be, and I'll continue to do what I can every day.

But until then, the shop will continue to have plenty of stock out front on the tables, including lots of Pokémon 3D prints, vintage figures, Pokémon cards (singles) and Pokémon plushes to the side on the display whenever stock is available.

I've made ten Pokémon mystery tins, which will be available for the usual price of £10 per tin, there are a few extra cards in these ones. There will be more in time, but they do take a while to make, but they are definitely worthwhile, so expect to see more in the future.

Come and browse the new card boxes of Pokémon cards I have, with prices starting at £1 and upwards, plus the usual tub of Pokémon cards available to rummage through, with prices starting at £0.10 or twelve for £1.

For today only, there's 10% off all items in the shop.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who has helped the business, and I hope to see you all soon.

All the best,
Sam

08/04/2025

Faceless Monkey will be closed today (Tuesday) on 08/04/2025 as an extra day is required to prepare for the busy couple of weeks ahead. The shop will be open again from tomorrow (Wednesday) on 09/04/2025 as normal.

Easter opening hours will be mostly the same as a normal week, except on Good Friday 18/04/2025 when the shop will be open from 11:30am until 14:30pm as this is in line with the market opening hours, as Pannier Market will close at 15:00pm on that day.

There will be plenty of Pokémon cards for sale, as single cards from the recently released Journey Together are available, in addition to other card binders which have been recently restocked, including the Eevee binder.

A limited amount of Vault-X 4 Pocket Side-Loading binders will be available for purchase, as I know there have been a few requests for binders, perfect for keeping any new Pokémon cards well protected, plus you can always pick up some Ultra Pro penny sleeves, or Pokémon branded sleeves as well.

If you're looking for something a bit different, there are a variety of 3D printed toys available on the tables outside as well, plus various keyrings, magnets and more besides.

I'll always endeavour to have something interesting on the displays outside the shop, while I continue to work on sorting the stock inside the shop. There are a lot of games and consoles which are being sorted on a daily basis, and if you require a console, replacement controller, or even a certain game, just send me a message via messenger, and I'll get back to you when I can, or ask if you're stopping by.

The same goes for Pokémon cards, as I often have lists of cards which people are looking for, and if I can get a certain card for someone, then I will. So send me a message if there is a particular card that you're hoping to purchase for your collection.

If you're unsure on which cards you want, are just starting out, or just like getting some random cards, then there are Mystery Tins available, which contain thirty cards of various rarity, in a mini tin, for just £10.

Thanks for your support, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the shop soon.

All the best,
Sam

23/12/2024

Faceless Monkey will be open on 23/12/2024 but will be closed on 24/12/2024, so today is the last day if you want to buy anything before 25/12/2024.

Sorting is still very much continuing as there is a lot of stock, but there will be plenty of the following items available on the displays outside the shop for purchase...

Nintendo amiibo figures (various boxed figures plus display stand)
Pokémon plushes (and other assorted plushes)
Pokémon cards (including a limited number of Mystery Tins)
Pokémon merchandise (toys, a playset and board game)
Toys (including various retro toys from 90's onwards)
Videogames (plenty of PS4 games, PS5, Xbox and Retro titles)
Various items (including DVD's, Blu-Rays, Comics, Annuals etc)

There will be plenty of reasonably cheap items, perfect if you need a last-minute gift, or something for yourself. I'll do everything I can to help you find what you're looking for, though it will likely be a busy day.

It's probably too short notice for Games Consoles, though if you need an extra controller, video lead or power lead, or even a charger for a handheld console, then that can usually be arranged, depending on what's in stock.

Check the opening times below...

Monday 23rd December, 2024 - OPEN
Tuesday 24th December, 2024 - CLOSED
Wednesday 25th December, 2024 - CLOSED
Thursday 26th December, 2024 - CLOSED
Friday 27th December, 2024 - OPEN
Saturday 28th December, 2024 - OPEN
Sunday 29th December, 2024 - CLOSED
Monday 30th December, 2024 - OPEN
Tuesday 31st December, 2024 - CLOSED
Wednesday 1st January, 2025 - CLOSED
Thursday 2nd January, 2025 - OPEN

Normal opening hours should resume after this point, although from Monday 6th January, 2025 until further notice, Faceless Monkey will not be open on Mondays, as I've been at the shop nearly every day this year, so it's time to refocus and take an extra day for a while to rest and prepare for the weeks ahead.

If you're looking to sell items, I probably won't be buying anything, aside from the odd retro game, if it's a title which has been requested. Though I will take a limited number of small items as part-trade against items in store, though large and expensive items such as consoles and peripherals won't be accepted. Also, VR headsets of all types will not be purchased, and neither will any Pop figures, as these are items which have not been stocked by the shop in a long time.

I'd like to wish all friends, visitors, and customers of Faceless Monkey all the best for this season, and for the year ahead. I acknowledge that it's not always a happy time for everyone as well, but at least we can remember those who are no longer with us, and honour them by doing our best every day, while continuing to live every day for those that we love, and hopefully make a few people smile along the way.

I look forward to seeing you all in a few days, or in the new year, and in the meantime I hope everyone has an excellent few days.

All the best,
Sam

Faceless Monkey is celebrating One Year since trading under new ownership, also it has been over two years since re-opening, and many years since the business was started by Luke, who is still missed every day, but I know that he'd be happy to see his place still open.

Thank you to Becca Tessa Pocock, the whole family, and everyone involved in reopening the shop, as it's a special place to many, including myself, and I'm just glad to be keeping the place open.

There is still a lot of work to be done, I'm putting in the hours every day, and things are improving, one day at a time.

But for now, if you're in the market today or tomorrow, you'd be more than welcome to stop by for a piece of cake, and sweets, or just to chat about the place and share some memories.

I've made five Pokémon mystery tins, which will be available for the usual price of £10 per tin, there are a few extra cards in these ones. There will be more in time, but they do take a while to make, but they are definitely worthwhile, so expect to see more in the future.

For today and tomorrow only, there's 10% off all other items in the shop.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who has helped the business, and I hope to see you all soon.

Please plan your next trip to Faceless Monkey accordingly, and if you were planning on visiting the shop on either of the days which it's closed, then all I can do is make the point that the rest of Pannier Market will still be open, and there are many other fantastic independent businesses which are well worth supporting.

If it's Pokémon cards that you're after in the meantime, then I can recommend Harry’s Toy Chest where you will find similar stock with plenty of choice, plus many Toys and Videogames with plenty of Lego sets to choose from.

Faceless Monkey will be CLOSED on these days...

Tuesday 23rd July, 2024
Wednesday 24th July, 2024

Due to the recently announced industrial action from First Group regarding the Bus Strike which will be taking place over at least the next couple of days.

While I understand the reason for the strike, and I hope that a reasonable outcome is reached soon, there isn't much else which can be done when you rely on public transport.

So I've taken the decision to close Faceless Monkey for two days, while the strike is ongoing.

It's not a decision I take lightly, as I've worked most days since the start of November last year, but taking a couple of days is the right decision for the business in this instance, as despite the potential loss of income, the time will be used to catch up with admin tasks, and to rest for a moment.

Thank you to anyone who has supported the shop recently, and though I acknowledge that there is still a lot of work to be done, it's important to realise what can realistically be achieved each day.

The shop will be open again from Thursday 25th July, 2024 all being well, and assuming that the normal bus service will resume.

Please plan your next trip to Faceless Monkey accordingly, and if you were planning on visiting the shop on either of the days which it's closed, then all I can do is make the point that the rest of Pannier Market will still be open, and there are many other fantastic independent businesses which are well worth supporting.
