Last week, I mentioned that (as I'm way too trusting) I'd probably just fallen for a sc*m. Well, the bad news is, it was a sc*m. The good news is I got my money back from the bank - proof that perseverance pays off.
Here's what happened...
Because of the hot weather, I decided to buy an air conditioning unit. I researched and found that the one I wanted was a DeLonghi Penguin. It was out of stock at all the major retailers, so I Googled stockists, found one that had stock at a good price, and bought it.
About 30 minutes later, I began to question my decision.
I did some digging around, and the company wasn't legitimate. It was then that I took screenshots of the whole transaction and contacted my bank to stop the payment and send them proof of everything I'd done.
There are a couple of morals to this story. 1) If an offer is too good to be true, it probably is. And 2) If you suspect you've fallen for a sc*m, gather as much evidence as possible and persevere with the bank.
I've been in IT for forty years, have seen pretty much everything, but this stuff still happens to me. And if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.
Please be safe and vigilant out there.
