Amazing news received this evening, The PC Guy has reached the finalist stage in 4 categories for the annual Tech for Tech awards this year. The amount of nominations this year has well exceeded the last and over a thousand companies throughout the uk and Ireland were entered. To even be recognised in the top 5 is truly humbling.

I wanted to convey a huge thank you to all who took the time to vote for me and to all my loyal customers who have allowed me to continue to serve the community.

Next the TechMax event & awards evening on the 3rd of July.

Passwords: Do you save them or rely on pure memory?

Passwords are a pain at the best of times but especially if you can’t remember them or the classic “I’ve never had a password” which I hear all the time.

Is it safe to write passwords down?
In a word absolutely.

Is it safe to save passwords online?
Yes, however you run the risk of data leaks which happen from time to time, be prepared to change your passwords every six months.

Can I make a complicated password?

You can, but do you really want to writing a 26 character password that can easily be forgotten? Choose words numbers and special characters, don’t go too difficult.

Can I create a password after the names of dogs cats?

Yes, but I would strongly disagree with using this method as they are easy to guess, also using passwords with house number and street can really give a lot away.

Should I share my password with family?

I would say yes, if you have no issues with that. Especially if something were to happen to you and your family needed access to your accounts (again, write them down)

Can I use the same password for all my accounts?

Yes, however change the password every 6 months to ensure security.

Just these simple steps will allow you to keep your passwords safe. Never share with anyone over the phone or online.

Thank you all for sharing your happy stories and those of grief, we all need someone to talk to from time to time and it’s been humbling to hear all your stories. I hope you have had a lovely festive season. Jay

Well what a year it’s been, I want to again send all my best wishes to every single one of my customers and friends for supporting my business for another year. It’s been quite a difficult challenging one with loads of ups and a few downs.

Being an independent small business is worrying at the best of times, learning I had skin cancer was a shock but all dealt with and removed, worrying about the next steps and how to look after myself better to dealing with quiet times and more.

The plus side of winning an award again for the 4th year running was amazing and that in itself gives me a boost to continue to grow and better myself and the business.

It will be 10 years in January that I have been situated in my office and I couldn’t have done it without your constant support. I am as always, humbled by your return custom, support and patience when things run a bit slow on my end due to the busy periods.

I wish you all a very merry christmas and a very happy prosperous new year. Jay
