We have recently completed a new website for Devon homelessness charity St Petrock's (Exeter) Ltd following a year of collaborative, pro-bono work as part of our Charity of the Year programme.

Designed with accessibility at its core, the new site is helping St Petrock’s respond to a 26% increase in referrals to its services, with clearer and more seamless journeys for people looking for information and support.

The website is also fully integrated with a new Beacon CRM, connecting systems and helping create smoother experiences for stakeholders.

We’re proud to share this project as a great example of how our Charity of the Year programme can provide tailored digital support around a charity’s specific needs.

A huge thank you to the St Petrock’s team for a brilliant year of collaboration.

If you’ve read our founder Stuart Palmer’s recent post, you’ll know our Charity of the Year programme was established for one simple reason: to help.

But ‘help’ can mean different things to different charities. Every organisation has its own challenges, priorities and ambitions, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

That’s what makes our Charity of the Year programme different.

Once we receive your application, we’ll take the time to understand what you’re trying to achieve, where the opportunities are, and where digital support could make the biggest difference.

What we offer will be shaped around what you uniquely need - not a pre-set package of services.

For some, that could mean:
🌐 A new website, or improving the one you already have
🎯 Getting more from your CRM and data
💥 Improving online fundraising or moving to a new platform

For others:
🔗 Better integration between systems and supporter journeys
💡 Taking a fresh look at your wider digital strategy

Or…something completely different.

The starting point is your application and a conversation about what your charity needs, followed by a year of support shaped around your goals and priorities.

If you or someone you know works for a charity with a digital ambition for 2027, we’d love to hear from you.

This segment might seem obvious, but it's one of the most overlooked.

Regularly identifying supporters who no longer need to be retained helps reduce CRM costs while supporting your data retention policy. It also keeps your other segments accurate and effective.

If you’re not already using your CRM to identify people with a high lifetime value, significant volunteering history or consistently generous donations - now’s the time to start.

These supporters are deserving of your time on personal communications, such as a thank you letter from your CEO, an invitation to an exclusive event or an update on the impact they've helped create. Investing in these relationships will turn loyal supporters into long-term ambassadors for your organisation.

People who have taken part in fundraising events have already invested their time and effort in your cause, so it makes sense to tailor your communications based on what they've done before.

Someone who previously completed a marathon, for example, is more likely to be interested in your next challenge event, while a golf day attendee will probably respond better to another golf day than a generic fundraising email.

Not every supporter who stops donating has lost interest, many could still be opening your emails, attending your events and deeply invested in your cause.

This makes them a valuable segment, particularly when compared to the cost of acquiring someone new.

Research shows that regular givers have a higher lifetime value than one-off donors, making them a strong audience for targeted fundraising campaigns such as emergency appeals, capital projects, matched funding campaigns like the Big Give, or seasonal appeals.

First-time donors are one of your (potentially) most valuable audiences.

So, the goal of a dedicated segment should be to encourage that next step, whether it’s making another donation, setting up a regular gift or getting involved in future fundraising activities.

A dedicated welcome journey can help achieve this. Swipe through for advice on how to set up and target this important segment.

Over the coming days we’re sharing seven CRM segments that can help charities identify fundraising opportunities and get more value from their supporter data.

Our first focuses on supporters who've donated in the last four years but don't have a valid Gift Aid declaration on file - a simple campaign that has the potential to unlock a lot of additional Gift Aid income.
