The client, based in Wimbledon, London, was undergoing a renovation of their home, including a revamp of their living room. They envisioned a modern media wall with built-in cabinetry that would not only house a TV but also support a larger screen for an enhanced home entertainment experience.

The finished living room successfully combined functionality with high-end home entertainment technology, meeting the client’s vision of a modern, multi-purpose space. The custom media wall provides the flexibility of everyday TV viewing as well as an immersive home theatre experience.

This customers goal was to create an immersive, family-friendly experience that would bring everyone together in one space. Due to the unique layout of the room—with a door on one side, an inglenook fireplace on the other, and a bay window on the third wall—finding an ideal spot for a traditional TV was challenging.

The completed space provides a beautifully hidden home cinema that is easy for the entire family to enjoy. The concealed screen and projector lift allow the family room to retain its inviting appearance when not in use, while the Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 speaker system creates an immersive experience during movie nights and TV viewing.

The integration of modern cinema technology into a home with oak beams and panelling required a balance of aesthetics and functionality.

Carpenters on-site constructed a custom oak box that was fitted onto the beams in front of the bay window. The box-out concealed the 113-inch screen when retracted, allowing the family to appreciate the picturesque views outside. The projector was mounted on a bespoke oak shelf again produced by the carpenters, blending beautifully with the room’s natural materials.

The challenge was to integrate high-performance AV equipment seamlessly while maintaining a clean and unobtrusive design. The setup needed to provide an immersive cinematic experience while blending effortlessly into the surrounding décor when not in use.
