If you’re unsure how resilient your organisation would be in the event of a cyber incident, now is a good time to ask:
✔️ Do we have MFA enabled everywhere?
✔️ Are our devices patched and monitored?
✔️ Are backups tested and recoverable?
✔️ Could we continue operating if a critical system became unavailable?
✔️ Do we know how we would respond to a cyber incident?
This week Simon attended the South West Cyber Resilience Showcase in Bristol to hear from industry experts, security professionals, law enforcement, and business leaders discussing the evolving cyber threat landscape. A worthwhile evening and some excellent discussions with businesses from across the South West.
A few key themes stood out:
· Cyber security is no longer just an IT issue – it’s a business risk issue.
· Cyber attacks impact operations, finances, reputation, & customer trust.
· AI is making both defense and attack more sophisticated.
· The question is no longer “Can we prevent every attack?” but “How quickly can we detect, respond and recover when something happens?”
· Many organisations still have gaps in basic cyber hygiene, such as patch management, multi-factor authentication, backup validation, device management, and user awareness training.
For many Small and Medium Enterprises, cyber security can feel overwhelming, but the reality is that implementing the fundamentals correctly will significantly reduce risk.
This is where working with experienced IT and cyber security specialists can add real value. Independent assessments, proactive monitoring, cyber security controls, incident response planning, and ongoing guidance can help organisations reduce risk and improve resilience before an incident occurs.
