D-Day: Remembering the Cost of Freedom 🪖

June 6th marks 82 years since the Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy — a defining moment of sacrifice during the Second World War.

Today, we remember the grandfathers, the soldiers, and those who never got the chance to grow old. We also remember the unique bonds forged in that chaos, including the military working dogs and para-dogs who dropped into Normandy to sniff out explosives and protect their units. They all faced the unimaginable horrors together.

There is a profound difference between true freedom and merely a "captive peace." Any nation can have a quiet life if they always surrender their sovereignty, always bow to pressure, and willingly hand over their rights.

True honor to those who went before means understanding that the absence of war does not automatically mean all is well. Tyranny doesn't always show up as a foreign military on a beach; it can creep into the quiet spaces through policy and stealth laws where people stop standing up for what is right.

Today, we remember the goal then, and the goal now, is freedom — which should always include, but not exclusively, ‘speech, land, ownership, and the right to live our lives without tyranny’.

Thank you to the fore-fathers who stood their ground so we could enjoy a moment of freedom again.

Well, that UK heatwave was brutal, wasn’t it? 🥵

We went from freezing nights in jumpers to the blazing fires of Mount Doom in less than 24 hours.
Anything over 20°C in the UK is "cold shower" territory.
30°C is an end-of-days scenario.

As a self-employed business owner, I got hit unexpectedly by the wall of heat and had to act quickly. Attempting to fight the heat was a bad idea, so I chose to dial everything right down.

I paused the web dev work. I turned off my 3 glaring monitors radiating heat, dropped to 10% capacity for essential client support, and even paused my workouts.

Rest is a workout too. Sometimes a strategic time-out is exactly what leads to better gains.
"Luxury" is relative when you regularly work 80 hours a week just to get paid for 10 — but I’d still take it over a rigid, 7-to-7 grind in a sweat-soaked office any day. It’s all about lifestyle benefits.

We live in a world — especially in tech, web design, and digital media — that moves lightning fast. If you can’t adapt to a sudden shift in your environment — be that tech or weather — you get left behind.
Or burnt to a crisp.

As Bruce Lee would say,
"Be water."

Three days later, the temperatures have stabilized.
The result? Energy refreshed, WordPress updates pushed live, and a stellar workout checked off last night.

By dynamically adjusting to the rules of nature instead of stubbornly sticking to a rigid routine, I came out the other side healthy and unscathed.

Don't grind yourself into burnout just to follow a rigid calendar.
Work has to be timetabled to reality, not man-made rules.

Put your health first, adapt to the situation at hand, and the gains will follow.

Have you ever seen a frog jump with a bow and arrow? Well, you have now. 🐸🏹

Apparently, it’s Frog Jumping Day. "What on the pond is that?" I hear you ask.

It’s a nod to a Mark Twain story about a champion jumping frog that lost a big bet because it was secretly fed buckshot — making the poor thing too heavy to move. Tragic.

So, let's shift this to web design.

As a business, you need a website that leaps above the competition and encourages customers to jump through your sales funnel. A frog is in the air for less than 2 seconds and coincidentally, a website has about 2 seconds to strike the right impression before a customer bounces.

If your site is weighed down by "buckshot" (slow code and cookie-cutter design), you’re losing to your higher-jumping competitors.

At Archer Web Design, we make sure your site is lean, sharp, and hits the mark instantly. We build websites that look great and actually convert—that’s what we do best. 🎯

Is your website a champion leaper, or is it full of buckshot?
Let’s chat.

Hi,
A quick get to know us post —

We build websites and have worked with a range of clients across the UK and USA — everything from complex eCommerce builds to full website re-designs.

Our preference is the design side of things.
We like to create websites that standout from the usual cookie-cutter templates.

The goal is to give your business a better chance of converting customers with a solid first impression, rather than an "eye roll" reaction that leads to your customers bouncing (leaving) your website.

Every job is different and there are almost infinite possibilities (we build using WordPress and it's basically a sandbox environment), so the best way we can help is through a quick, free consultation by email or via a quick video chat.

That way we can find out who you are, what you actually require, and exactly how we can help you get there.

Drop us a message if you'd like to chat! Or reach out at Archerwebdesign.co.uk 🎯

To the Ones Who Help Us Aim High: Happy Mother’s Day 🎯🌸🇺🇸

Whether you're celebrating in the UK or across the pond, today is about honoring the women who taught us how to stay on target.

In archery, a steady hand and a supportive stance make all the difference. Mothers are often the ultimate "coaches" -providing the balance and encouragement we need to hit our goals, no matter how far away they seem.

To all the mums and mother figures out there: thank you for helping us find our focus and for always cheering from the sidelines.

Enjoy your day!

81 Years Since VE Day: Honouring a Legacy of Courage 🇬🇧

The end of the war in Europe in 1945 brought hope, relief, and celebration after years of grueling conflict.

Today, we remember the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of a generation that fought for peace and freedom. Their courage shaped our history, and their legacy continues to inspire the standards we hold ourselves to today.

A Tradition of Standing Firm:
In our history, the figure of the archer has always stood for protection, precision, and standing one's ground. That same spirit of "aiming true" was seen in the incredible men and women who served to ensure a better future for us all.

At Archer Web Design, we take a moment today to reflect on that sacrifice. We honour all who served and gave so much so that future generations could build, grow, and live in peace.

We will remember them.

Happy National Star Wars Day! May The Fourth Be With You Always.

May The Fourth Be With You Always 🌌🎯

It’s National Star Wars Day, and while I’m not exactly outfitting X-wings, there’s a lot we can learn from a certain galaxy far, far away when it comes to your business.

In the films, a Jedi’s greatest strength isn’t just their lightsaber — it’s their focus. Whether they are navigating an asteroid field or making a one-in-a-million shot at a thermal exhaust port, precision is everything.

I look at web design through that same lens of precision. A website shouldn’t just be “flashy” like a Cantina band performance; it needs to be as efficient and targeted as a proton torpedo.

Stay on target:

▶️ No “Clones” here: We don’t use generic, off-the-shelf templates. Your business is unique, and your site should be too.
▶️ The “Force” of Functionality: A site that looks great but doesn’t work is just a digital paperweight. We build for speed, ease of use, and results.
▶️Staying Out of the Dark Ages: We move businesses away from clunky, outdated systems and onto high-performing platforms they actually own and control.

Whether you’re a small rebellion business looking to make it big in the galaxy or a growing empire expanding your reach, your digital presence needs to hit the mark every time.

Think of your website as your brand’s lightsaber: the design is the handle, but our custom builds are the Kyber crystal - the true power source that propels your “Force” for success.

If you’re ready to power up your business with a site that actually performs, feel free to reach out. May the Fourth be with you! 🏹✨

Enjoy the day, watch your favorite trilogy, and may the Fourth be with you! 🏹✨

Principles, Power, and the Longbow: Happy St. George’s Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏹

Happy St. George’s Day.

Contrary to the popular image of George as an English-born knight in shining armour, he was actually of Turkish descent with a Palestinian mother. George was a warrior in the Roman military and a member of the Praetorian Guard loyal to the emperor Diocletian.

He was a man of honor and high values. He wasn’t afraid to tell the Emperor where to stick it when told to recant his Christian faith, and for his bravery, he was sentenced to death – and become a martyre. It was this refusal to compromise his principles that birthed the legend of St.George.

To me, that’s what St. George represents: that regardless of background or where you come from, you can choose to live by a high standard. It’s a message that carries over into all aspects of life.

The Archer Connection: St. George is also the patron saint of archers. In English history, the longbow was the world-renowned weapon of the Kingdom of England - feared and respected for its precision. As for the dragon you often see in the depictions? Well, dragons are just cool, so why not.

I bring that same "high standard" to my work. In an industry full of sloppy work and generic templates, I prefer to stand by my principles: doing the job right, being transparent with clients, and aiming to delivery websites that actually achieve a business’s goal.

Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day.

I’m a big supporter of technologies that allow us to work more efficiently with less power. However, I’m also a realist. I’m critical of net-zero initiatives that negatively impact our quality of life. Power is the backbone of our infrastructure, and we need to be realistic about how it’s generated; otherwise, we’ll be living in the dark ages.

That said I do my bit to stay efficient:

• Monitor Dimming: I dim my monitors to their lowest setting. To be honest, it’s much nicer for the eyes and has the added benefit of using less power.

• The Power Station: I often run my workstation off one of my portable power stations. It gives me a solid 8 hours of energy. I can recharge it for about £1, or my preferred way via my 200-watt solar panels in about 3-4 hours.

Fun fact: solar panels still work when it’s drizzling or cloudy! It might stretch the charge time to 5 hours, but the energy is still getting generated. I call this charging "bright power."

• Metal Drink Canteen: Courtesy of the Bushcraft Show (which I have volunteered for over many years), I use a metal refillable canteen daily. It keeps me hydrated and cuts out the need for plastic bottles. Volunteering at the show was an amazing experience that opened my eyes to many valuable traditional ways of living while teaching me skills like "leaving no trace" - aka, no rubbish left behind.
The goal for the future is to fully power my workstation using solar energy and to store excess power in battery packs for those long winters and rare power cuts.

How this affects my clients:
Every website we build is designed to be fast and efficient. Faster loading times mean less energy consumption, particularly on mobile devices where heavy apps can drain batteries. On top of that, all our servers are powered by green energy sources like solar or wind farms.

By using less power, I’m not just saving money on the bills, I’m actually helping the planet in a way that makes sense.

Factoid time.
If you place a jelly bean on a shelf at eye height,
stand about a door’s length away, and
hold out a pen at arm’s length—
try to keep that ballpoint tip dead-center on the jelly bean.
That is effectively what a world/Olympic archer is looking at
when they aim at a target.

The targets themselves are a bit like jelly beans—hard and squishy to protect the arrows from damage.

We generally don’t eat the targets.

To hit a target that size requires a strict application of knowledge in order to land an arrow into the gold.

A website, too, requires deep understanding and
proper planning in order to hit your desired business goals.

This is why at Archer Web Design, we follow a strict design process to ensure your website doesn’t become yet another digital paperweight and instead becomes a valuable asset to your business — driving more customer sales.

Remember,
eat too many jelly beans and
you’ll end up a
belly bean. 🫄
