D-Day: Remembering the Cost of Freedom 🪖
June 6th marks 82 years since the Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy — a defining moment of sacrifice during the Second World War.
Today, we remember the grandfathers, the soldiers, and those who never got the chance to grow old. We also remember the unique bonds forged in that chaos, including the military working dogs and para-dogs who dropped into Normandy to sniff out explosives and protect their units. They all faced the unimaginable horrors together.
There is a profound difference between true freedom and merely a "captive peace." Any nation can have a quiet life if they always surrender their sovereignty, always bow to pressure, and willingly hand over their rights.
True honor to those who went before means understanding that the absence of war does not automatically mean all is well. Tyranny doesn't always show up as a foreign military on a beach; it can creep into the quiet spaces through policy and stealth laws where people stop standing up for what is right.
Today, we remember the goal then, and the goal now, is freedom — which should always include, but not exclusively, ‘speech, land, ownership, and the right to live our lives without tyranny’.
Thank you to the fore-fathers who stood their ground so we could enjoy a moment of freedom again.
