If you receive a message from WhatsApp telling you to click here to enter a security pin number. I checked it out on Google and it didn’t seem to think it was genuine. This is what the message says….

Be careful what you click. I blocked it because we are hyper sensitive to these types of scams. If it turns out to be genuine, then shame on you WhatsApp for communicating in such a poor manner.

WhatsApp does not send an official account message specifically about setting a PIN code. Instead, when you enable two-step verification, you create and confirm a PIN, which is then used as an additional layer of security when you log in. This PIN is different from the registration code you receive when you first set up your account.
Here's how two-step verification and PINs work in WhatsApp:
Two-step verification:
This is an optional feature that adds extra security to your account by requiring a PIN (a six-digit code of your choice) in addition to your phone number when you log in.
Setting up your PIN:
You can enable two-step verification and set up your PIN in WhatsApp settings (Account > Two-step verification > Turn on or Set up PIN).
Email address:
You can also provide an email address to help you reset your PIN if you forget it.
Benefits of two-step verification:
It helps protect your account from unauthorized access and provides an extra layer of security.

Older people are being targeted by the following scam. As report by U3A

Dear Members,

I have been asked by the Economic Crime Unit to warn all members about a recent scam which has caused distress to over 90 victims across the city. The target group comprises people between 70 and 89 years of age. They contacted me as I am a Neighbourhood Watch representative and one of my neighbours was targetted.

WHAT HAPPENS

The victims receive a phone call often late at night from a supposed Police Officer who informs them they have had their bank account hacked and he is helping to get back the money taken. He knows the victim's name and address and he also supplies his own name. He asks the victim to check they still have their bank card and that he requires it to recover the money they have had taken from their account. He then tells them to put it under the door mat at their front door so an undercover police officer can get it in order to start the process of retrieving their money. Unfortunately many have done as asked. The police wish to make you aware that if the victims seem unsure the fraudster suggests they can check the situation by phoning 101 and speak to the police. The fraudsters then can divert the call so the victim is speaking to another of the scammers.

BE AWARE

If the person who has phoned you suggests you phone 101 to check their credentials, you should do so from a different phone to the one that received the scam call. If you do not have both a landline and a mobile, contact a friend or relative to phone on your behalf.

KEEP SAFE

Follow these instructions and you will be able to stymie the fraudsters and keep yourself safe.

You will be aware that there will be a presentation from the Economic Unit and following that the u3a committee will email you again with any other strategies to avoid the scams and stay safe.

Considering the amount of cyber attacks going on in the UK at the moment and the elevated level of concern especially regarding Sainsbury’s and other primary organisations being disabled by hackers and Ransomware I would suggest that if you know how to do it that you block all Russian and non-European friendly IP addresses in your firewall it’s quite simple to block by country. That is what the entire UK should do. The ideal would be at primary point of entry. We can help ourselves by blocking all Russian IP addresses.

IMPORTANT - Did anyone see Rip off Britain on tv this morning? Luckily it was recorded as I was out. 2 people on FB had their accounts hijacked. Started by receiving notice of strange happenings on their account then their name disappears and a bloke called Jerry Avername was the name on their account. Now because FB had their payment details on their system, this Jerry proceded to empty their bank accounts. You might think, as I did, that FB haven't got my bank account details, but no, if you have made a donation to a charity or disaster fund (as I have) or you've bought something from a FB ad, FB have your bank details, even PayPal accounts. Go to FB Settings and look for Payment methods, then delete all bank and PayPal info. You've been warned.

If anybody tells you that my Saturday afternoons are uneventful and full of saxophone, playing or snooker then you forgot mention National Grid. Finest bunch of boys you could ever hope to meet or not on a Saturday afternoon. “Excuse me, sir, can we dig a 8ft hole on your drive“ I said “it is what it is“ why are you doing it? They said “ well the house next door is off the house next door, but one is off and the house down the bottom of the road is off because there’s a break in the phase. They also mention something about the fact that because my drive was a block paved drive. It was easier to get up the next door neighbours. Whose got steel plates in a skip on it. I just take it all in my stride frankly. Nothing phases me any more. Life goes on I shall go on with Scrubbing the workshop floor. Oh, by the way, I’ve got Covid on Tuesday!😂😂😂🤣

Always compromised website security warning seems to track back to BT internets routers and the DNS’s they use. All the support enquiries we are receiving track back to their DNS’s although this may be coincidence!

04/12/2022

Seems like an attack on DNS’s is underway from the number of people contacting us regarding insecure website allegations. Too normally good safe sites. Like Sainsbury’s Bt Internet mail, banks, seems to show itself through Google Chrome, but not Microsoft edge.
