March 2026 - the third iteration of iOS 26, 26.3. and 26.3.1 are available for download and installation on iPhones and iPads. The iPhones XR and XS are no longer supported so you cannot download iOS 26. They will still function for basis tasks but lack new security patches. You should upgrade to a newer model - perhaps the 14 or 15. These will be a lot cheaper than the latest model 17, and still have fantastic cameras and much better security features than iPhone X. However, there is a new model now available, the 17e - a more affordable option (£599) if you do want the latest version. It comes in three colours and supports fast wireless charging with MagSafe.

iOS software for iPhones and iPads has recently gone through s major update, from 18.7 to 26.1 and now 26.2. A lot of people are asking whether they should update or stay with 18 because they are familiar with it. I updated my system when 26.2 became available and regarded it as stable. Here are a couple of paragraphs from the FAQ section of the SCT website.

Q: Should I upgrade to the new iOS 26.2?
A: Yes, you should definitely upgrade to install the multiple new security features. 26 has reached its second iteration so is stable. (We have upgraded our devices to it!)

Q: Are there significant differences between iOS 18.7 and 26.2 for iPhone and iPad?
A: Yes, there are a few differences in functionality and appearance. Two of the main ones are 1. Save and Done have been replaced by tick symbols in several apps including Contacts and Notes. 2. The search bar in some apps has been moved from the top to the bottom of the screen which sometimes makes it more difficult to see. The screen now has a glass effect and some apps eg Pages have added tools included.

You will probably not find it a huge adjustment - after the first few days you will forget there was an update. However, if you need a bit of tech assistance/confidence boosting with your device, please call: 07788 985764.

The great thing, or one of the great things, about an iPad is you can use it in your hammock to watch Wimbledon 😃.

iOS 18 is here - which has lead to a few changes. Here are a few tips to make using your iPhone easier: in the photos App, you will no longer see the word Edit top right to allow you to crop/adjust lighting etc in your photos. To access the edit commands, use the three bar icon centre bottom of the screen to the right of the lower case i information button

Tap and hold the Home Screen to make all the icons wiggle if you want to move around or delete an app.

Swipe right to left past all your app screens to see your entire App Library. Tap on the search bar at the top and all your apps will appear in an alphabetic list. Tap on a letter on the right to avoid scrolling through all of them to find the one you want. If you sort your apps into folders (eg finance, social, travel,) and put those in alphabetic order, they are much quicker to find.

Download all the parking apps to save carrying masses of coins. The most used are Apcoa, MiPermit, PaybyPhone and PhoneandPay. Make sure your car registration and bank details are loaded on all of them to avoid standing in the rain when you are doing your shopping!

I haven't posted on this page for quite a while, so this is an experimental post to see if anyone is looking for help with their tablet/smartphone/laptop or tower. If you are, leave a comment for me underneath the post, or message me.

2 potentially useful pieces of information: the Stocard app is being terminated/merged with Klarna 15/12/24, and trying to force you to migrate to Klarna, which I was not keen to do. I've therefore trialled transferring my store cards to another app called SuperCards, available from the App Store - which worked fine using the scans already embedded in Stocard. Next stop will be using it in a shop to check it works. I'll report back

Early warning re support for Windows 10 which will be ending 25/10/2025 - this means no further technical assistance or security fixes will be available. Your PC will still work, but I recommend migrating to Windows 11 sooner rather than later.

When you are setting up a new iPad or iPhone, emails will go out with a default signature - either “Sent from my iPad” or “iPhone”. To make your emails personal, go to Settings, Mail and scroll down to Composing section. Tap on Signature and edit as required - perhaps name and phone number, or your business name and a logo if preferred.

Another scam email. This time a poor attempt to obtain money for updating software I do not use. Note the use of Help-Desk as the sender (with a strange hyphen), and the fact that it is actually from a random gmail address.
