The Elementor Request
So the other day someone asked me with a straight face:
“David, can you build me a professional business website… using Elementor?”
And I swear, for a moment, I genuinely thought it was a prank.
Like one of those hidden camera shows where they wait for you to snap so they can jump out and shout “Gotcha!”
But no.
They were serious.
Dead serious.
So I take a deep breath, open Elementor, and immediately the screen looks like a toddler’s colouring book. Buttons everywhere. Popups everywhere. A layout panel that seems to move around the screen like it’s trying to escape. And the builder proudly tells me:
“Drag your widget here!”
Widget.
Not “element,” not “module,” not “component.”
Widget.
Like I’m building a website out of Happy Meal toys.
I try to place a header.
It jumps three inches to the left.
I try to place a footer.
It disappears completely, probably traumatised.
I try to adjust spacing.
Elementor responds by adding 400px of padding for no reason other than pure malice.
Then comes the “responsive design” phase, the moment Elementor pretends it understands mobile layouts.
I switch to mobile view and suddenly the entire page looks like a ransom note.
Text overlapping images.
Buttons floating in space.
Columns stacked like a game of Jenga played by someone blindfolded.
Tablet view?
Forget it.
It looks like a collapsed bookshelf.
Desktop view?
Well, it’s technically a website… in the same way a potato is technically a vegetable.
And then the client asks:
“Why doesn’t it look professional?”
And I have to explain, calmly, politely, while resisting the urge to scream
that you cannot build a skyscraper out of Play‑Doh, you cannot build a Ferrari out of Lego, and you cannot build a professional business website with a toy builder designed for hobby bloggers and people who think SEO is a brand of kitchen cleaner.
By the time I’m done, Elementor has crashed twice, corrupted the layout once, and asked me to upgrade to PRO at least seven times, as if paying extra will magically make it behave like real software.
And that, ladies and gentlemen…
…is why no one asks me to build with Elementor.
Below is the now auto respond I give people who as for it.
