An North East businessman has lost a five-figure sum to scammers in what is known as a ‘payment diversion fraud.’

Criminals hacked the victims accounts and then sent him false invoices for payment, pretending to be his accountant. When the victim queried one of the invoices with a genuine supplier he realised he had been scammed.

Payment Diversion Fraud (PDF) affects all types of businesses and individuals. However, due to the targeted nature of this fraud type, small and medium sized businesses, which often have less comprehensive IT security, are particularly vulnerable. Individuals purchasing houses and are involved in large financial transactions are also at risk.

Protect yourself against PDF
- Have you been asked to urgently process a payment that is large or unusual?
- Have you been asked to change the bank details of an existing supplier or to set up a new supplier?
- Is the language used in the email inconsistent with that of the genuine sender?
- If you have any doubt about the transaction then do not transfer the money. Protect yourself by double-checking the payment request via an additional method using details from another source (such as text message, phone call or in-person).
- Criminals are experts at impersonating people, organisations and the police. They spend hours researching you for their scams, hoping you’ll let your guard down for just a moment. Stop and think. It could protect you and your money.
- Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam.

Windows 11 or Not??

Soon - everyone will have to make a choice. Microsoft is "ditching" updates for Windows 10 in October.

So what Chris??? Well.... as time progresses, your "old" Windows 10 system will become more and more susceptible to infiltration by viruses and malware. UNLESS you move to Windows 11, OR pay Microsoft for a years worth of updates.

Now - paying that nominal fee might well be a bargain (we think it will be roughly £35) but this is just "kicking the can down the road" and you are *MUCH* better off doing something about your older system, because sooer or later you are going to have to anyway :-(

Some of my customer base's machines *WILL* run Windows 11 but *NOT* all of them. The process of deciding whether one will or not is down to CPU types and mothertboards, BUT conside this rule of thumb. If yoiur PC (laptop included) is older than about 3 years old, it is ulikely to take the new system, rendering it pretty much useless... (although there are ways round this like an unsupported W11 install or LINUX).

This is a VERY unfortunate situation, as noone likes spending money for no reason, but that is what is needed here, I am afraid... Even though your systems work perfectly fine, you will have to do something...

Here is my advice. Business users - UPGRADE or Install W11 if you can. This is an easy recomendation, as you MUST not leave things to chance, and like I say, you are going to upgrade no matter what anyway, may as well bite the bullet - and you have 4 months leeway for decisions.

For Home users, you may feel paying for the one year gets you a bit of breathing space, and that might be a good option for you. But you will still have the same decision to make in a year.

It can be ultra-confusing, and most people I discuss this with had no idea that this was taking place, so its a heads-up really....

If you want to discuss what you have at present and what you will need to do just give me a ring mon 07484835826

Morning :-) I have a gaming PC for sale. It has 16Gb RAM a 3350Pro Ryzen 5 CPU an R9 270X GPU, 20" monitor and a kit that includes a gaming keyboard, mouse, headset and mouse pad. Includes Windows 11 Pro. It has been built by me from a mixture of new and used parts, and would be suitable for most games, although with th every *LATEST* titles it would need a "Low" setting within the game. If any of this is gobbledygook :-) give me a bell and we can discuss your requirements etc.

Looking for £200 and I can maybe deliver locally if needed, phone to discuss.

I will also support your install if you are completely lost :-)

Ransomware!!!
Whats that??? Well - had a client recently that allowed a *VERY* genuine sounding support person remote access to his PC, as there was an issue to resolve. (There really wasnt - but that aside) - the "support" person then ran scripts to lock the PC and cause it to no longer work correctly. The perpetrator then requested *THOUSANDS* of pounds to unlock it for them and contact during the day was relentless. I managed to retrieve the data and break through what had been done, re-install Windows and deliver back a working machine! We can all learn from this, as we should let *NO-ONE* remote access unless you know them and YOU have instigated it. HMRC, Microsoft, Google, Apple etc will NEVER cold-call and ask to "help out".
Oh - and *THEN* you have the nightmare of changing every password, cancelling cards accounts etc, because you have to assume they have all the details from your PC, so its a costly and invasive attack!!

Just a timely reminder people that not everyone has your best interests at heart I am afraid 🥺🥺
