What are your favourite games to play or books to read with your child? Here are some of my favourites that are great to use along with Makaton signs too. Playing games / reading books helps development of language through turn taking, listening, visual attention, naming vocabulary, social chat, memory, categorising words, taking in information from pictures / print, and motor skills by picking up pieces, turning page using dice (also 2 dice games are great for maths!).

I’m sure we all say, I need to spend less time on my screen! Here is some really helpful advice to remind us how important this is as the evidence shows that it can negatively impact our children’s development and how they regulate themselves. So try to cut down and share and engage with screen time. Swap the screen if possible with pretend play, books, singing.

Earlier this month we ran our first DLD Together course for parents of children in Stockport with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

📍DLD is the most common childhood difficulty that no one has heard of

📍it affects around 2 children in every class of 30

📍Children do not grow out of DLD, it is a lifelong condition

📍The more people know and understand about DLD, the better we can support children and young people with DLD and their families

📍The DLD Together parent course will be running again in the Autumn - please speak to your child’s speech and language therapist, or school SENCo for more information
