šŸŽ‚ Secure Nexus is three today.

Three years.

In cybersecurity terms, that’s approximately 147 new threats, 62 urgent patches and several thousand emails asking someone to PLEASE stop clicking things.

Probably.

We’ve spent the last three years helping businesses keep their IT working, their data where it belongs and the less savoury inhabitants of the internet firmly on the outside.

Along the way, we’ve grown the business, grown the team, picked up some lovely clients and even found ourselves shortlisted for a few awards.

Not bad for something that started three years ago with an idea that businesses deserved better IT support.

Support that doesn’t just appear when something has already gone wrong.

Security that isn’t treated as an optional extra.

And advice delivered in actual English wherever humanly possible.

So, happy third birthday to us. šŸŽ‰

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us, recommended us, worked with us or tolerated Raymond talking about cybersecurity for considerably longer than they expected.

Here’s to year four.

Same mission.

Hopefully fewer people clicking suspicious links.

Before everyone gets properly busy again, check three things:

Who was given additional access over summer?

Which temporary accounts are still active?

Did anyone leave or change roles without their permissions changing with them?

It is not the most exciting September reset. It may be considerably more useful than buying another notebook.

Summer is good at creating exceptions. Someone needs access from abroad. A colleague covers another role. A temporary permission gets added because it is easier than changing the process. All perfectly reasonable at the time.

Then September arrives and the temporary fix quietly acquires a permanent job.

What we see a lot is not bad security. It is sensible exceptions nobody remembered to undo.

September has a habit of feeling like the real start of the year.

Holidays are over. Diaries fill up. Everyone suddenly remembers the things they were definitely going to sort before summer.

Cyber security has a habit of appearing on that list.

The problem with ā€œwe’ll deal with it after the holidaysā€ is that risk did not take August off.

September is a good time to look at what changed while everyone was busy doing something else.

Take a fresh look at your cyber security, identify any gaps, and make sure your business is ready for the months ahead.

We often see solutions implemented that do not match the organisation’s behaviour.

They look correct. They do not work in practice.

The best option is not always the most visible. It is the one that aligns with how the organisation actually operates.

Ask: What evidence supports this choice?

What assumptions are we making?

Decisions improve when they are examined, not rushed.
