⚡ Are UK manufacturers paying more for electricity than they need to?
Many manufacturing businesses are unaware of a new Government-backed initiative that could significantly reduce their electricity costs.
The British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme (BICS) has been introduced to help eligible UK manufacturers by providing exemptions from certain policy costs included within electricity bills, including:
✅ Renewables Obligation (RO)
✅ Feed-in Tariffs (FiT)
✅ Capacity Market charges
For qualifying businesses, the benefit could be worth up to approximately £40 per MWh, depending on their manufacturing activity and energy consumption.
The interesting part is you dont have to be a huge factory or multinational organisation to qualify. Businesses involved in areas such as:
🔹 Engineering amp; machinery
🔹 Food manufacturing
🔹 Timber amp; wood processing
🔹 Plastics amp; metals
🔹 Paper amp; packaging
🔹 Building products
🔹 Glass amp; ceramics
🔹 Other energy-intensive manufacturing may be eligible.
With energy costs continuing to impact margins, its worth understanding whether your business, or someone in your network, could benefit.
