iPhone 13 - Repairing on a budget

This phone came in last week totally smashed, and likely to be smashed again, as it’s owned by an active teen.

So this needed a whole new screen and chassis. The chassis is a genuine pulled grade C Apple, that means it comes with some marks and wear but has the benefits of being a genuine part. The screen used was a budget model but would fit in the total cost and affordability of the phone. Any Qs about budget screens I did a recent post that explains all.

iPhone - battery change. Your options

When it comes to changing your battery there are a few options. Genuine Apple, aftermarket and an in between option. In terms of performance a good quality aftermarket battery does a fantastic job, however, using aftermarket does leave a message deep in your settings stating it’s saying it’s unverified. Genuine Apple will cost significantly more but it can be registered with your phone. The in between option is an aftermarket battery with an Apple BMS allowing it to be registered but it will state it’s used.

The choice is one for you, aftermarket definitely has its place as a good cost effective option.

The charger…. Phone won’t charge. Advice

This is quite a common issue that I see. It either comes in as I can’t charge my phone or something is stuck in my port.

This metal object is the end of the plug that fits into your iPhone. This is normally from cheap chargers brought from pound shops or online retailer’s.

I would stress that using a genuine Apple charger is really important, it has a small chip in the end that monitors and regulates the charge to your phone. Using cheap chargers can damage you battery but also can cause damage to the motherboard in your phone. Always check that your charger is MFI certified.

The advice applies to other brands of phone.

iPhone screen repair - need advice ? Budget or premium ?

This applies to IPhones only. Samsungs and others, I only use genuine screens.

When it comes to iPhones, I offer both a budget and premium option. My advice is always to go for a premium screen but a budget option is just that, but it is a meaningful option, if necessary. They are useful where budget is an issue, or if you have a child who keeps breaking the screens and don’t want to keep investing in more expensive screens, or maybe if you intend getting a new phone in the next few months and just need to get by.

The difference ! Well, budget screens are often different technology ie Oled v LCD, they are often slightly thicker, use more power therefore more battery, they often become glitchy i.e ghost touching or failing to respond to touch, the overall picture lacks quality in terms of of overall clarity. They also have the propensity to fail or become faulty more often than a premium screen would.

Our budget screens have a 3 month warranty, our premium screens are covered by a 12 month warranty excluding accidental damage.

This MacBook came into us with the battery completely dead and would only switch on when on charge. Battery replaced and back to full working order.

This A series Samsung came in with the water in the charging port symbol. There can be a number of reasons for it but a change in the charging port resolved this one.

All our repairs come with 12 months warranty with the exception of budget iPhone screens. All our parts are sourced from reputable suppliers. Best of all, we come to you and repair in our workshop ready van.

This iPad 9 and iPad 6 have come in for screen repairs from a local business. The one had been previously repaired but the home but had collapsed due to being fitted incorrectly. Both back to fully working order.
