This Cambridge Audio sub woofer came in with a blown speaker. It would have been scrapped if I hadn’t come across CEN Automotive . They had Pioneer replacement drivers at a sensible price and a good fit with no carpentry required!

The right channel had failed and the client Googled the answer and tried to fix it, very brave as these are not easy to work on! It still didn't work.
These use an STK1039 hybrid amplifier module, originals are no longer available but replacements can be purchased. These are usually fake and either don't work or don't last very long. Rather than try another 'fake' component, I decided to design a circuit and fit some replacement transistors. More info on this will be in another post.

Something very modern! Convert your vinyl to wav files.
The speed was varying, the sound was distorted from the RCA sockets, but it was converting to wav files. The motor bearings are pretty bad, I managed to take the motor apart and give the bearings a good clean and some lubrication. The distortion was a little confusing to begin with! No supply voltages to the op-amps. Only 6 volts going into the unit, should be 12volts. Client was using the wrong power adaptor! Apart from the speed varying it was correct as the motor is 5volts for 33rpm and 45rpm.

Something different. A Mickey Mouse animated lamp from USA, been connected to 230v instead of 120v. A replacement mains transformer and a few modifications gets it working.

This client wanted me to try and repair these as they were his fathers.
The CD player had already been to several places and deemed not repairable!
Both are now working again.
Cambridge A60 amplifier from 1978 and Philips CDC745 from 1994.

Intermittent output from 1 channel on this Sansui amp was fairly simple to diagnose, the repair was very time consuming though.
This amp was deemed unrepairable by a few other repair companies.

Just finished this nice Dynatron HFC31 from about 1971. It required quite a bit of work, but is now fully working.
