We’re on the Thames this weekend for The Boat Race 2026, helping power one of the UK’s most iconic sporting events.

Zero Marine Services is providing one of the official support boats, powered by our RAD 40 electric drive system, delivering smooth, quiet performance right alongside the action.

Delighted to be supporting this event again following the debut of electric support boats in 2025, and to be part of the continued shift toward more sustainable operations on the water.

March was a busy month at RAD!

From product milestones and industry events, it has been a great period of progress as we continue working towards cleaner, smarter marine propulsion.

Here are a few highlights from the past month:
> Dan Hook (CEO) and team gained key insights at Oceanology International
> Toby Biddlecombe and Sam Pickering delivered RAD power consoles to a cruise customer in Spain
> Dan Primrose showcased the RAD 120 at Lord Wandsworth College careers day
> UCL Mechanical Engineering published a quiet marine tech study, which RAD were proud to be involved in
> Jess, Alvin and Rob took their PB2 qualification

Stay tuned for more updates as we head into the next month.

New peer-reviewed research from UCL shows electric boats can be up to 43 dB quieter underwater than comparable combustion vessels.

We were approached by UCL Mechanical Engineering to support a study exploring how propulsion choices impact underwater noise.

The research, now published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, compared two near-identical boats: one powered by a conventional ICE outboard, the other by a RAD 40 drive.

Through controlled lake trials, the difference was clear. The RAD-powered vessel was up to 43 dB quieter at low speeds and remained consistently quieter across 4–20 knots compared to the ICE equivalent.

The findings reinforce a critical point: well-engineered electric propulsion can play a meaningful role in reducing underwater radiated noise, particularly across frequency ranges known to affect marine mammals.

We were proud to support UCL’s team with vessels, hardware and engineering input across both the initial River Hamble trials and the controlled lake study.
